Interesting Glock Torture Test...

"They even throw it out of an airplane. Pretty brutal but it comes out okay..."

That won't be a useful test until the guy goes out of the plane with it. A gun is no good if you are separated from it. ;)
 
So, why are all these 1911 nuts such haters? Where's the 1911 torture test? This is why my EDC is a g19... cuz they're BAD ARSS!!!

I'm not hating on the 1911, my next purchase is going to be a colt combat commander, but I'm a Tupperware guy, So naturally I will defend my lunch!!!

Being a sport parachutist, I can relate. But I don't go into the thermal chamber or stand on the shock and vibration table when my designs are under test, I watch through the window.

I'm not a fanboy of either platform, but I think the 75 years of service in our military was a pretty good test for the 1911...

Ummm, yea.....The torture test the tupperware worshipers like to conveniently forget. :cool:

The Glock/Block still has much to prove, in comparison. One thing is certain, it will never have the class & style of the 1911.
 
I show off my 1911's to my friends. My enemies get to see the Glocks.

Actually the 1911 will stand up to a lot more than most believe. Certainly more than any revolver, but the plastic frame does give the Glock an advantage. FWIW I think most any of the plastic guns made by S&W and others would do about as well.
 
Those Glocks seem to be terrific pistols, of course 1911 owners are smart enough to not throw their sidearm out of a perfectly good aircraft:neener:... I guess if this epidemic of Glocks spontaneously leaping out of airplanes continues it is good to know they will survive the fall.

Lacking the real torture tests of The First World War, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and dozens of barely remembered real life torture tests spread over a 100 year lifespan, throwing your Glock out of an airplane does make sense, in a convoluted Austrian kind of a way.:evil:

Did you know most law enforcement officers in the world use a Glock over anything else? Including 1911s. Cuz THEYRE PROVEN EXTREMELY RELIABLE. I don't know what they have to prove...
your right though, they aren't gonna win a beauty pageant. I have never shot a 1911 so I can't say anything there... I'm not hating on the 1911, I'm hating one the 1911/ anti-glock nuts...

Off topic (but important):

I would too if I had to jump back then. The equipment I trained on wasn't a whole lot different than what your Dad jumped with but I didn't have anyone shooting at me.

Tell your Dad I think he is a hero and give him my thanks for serving our country and defending our freedoms which I never take for granted.

I do believe our military threw away the 1911 almost 25 years ago. I know they started to talk about it's battle failures during Vietnam in 1970 and if memory serves me correctly the M9 Beretta became Standard Military Side Arm around 1988 just before Desert Shield. Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf stated that he would take that antiquated piece of junk into the sands of the desert. Old Storman Norman was quite a character indeed.
 
Actually a lot of the style of the 1911 and 1911a1 was not from Browning. It was done during the tooling set up process at the Colt Manufacturing Facility in Paterson New Jersey and on display at the museum located there.

In actual history the 9 mm round was invented prior to the .45 ACP which stands for Colt Automatic Pistol. The all time favorite American Handgun is the Colt Peace Maker and subsequent military model the M1874.

The US Military terminated the 1911 .45 ACP contract in 1950 with Colt and no more were every produced for military use. The actual production span was less that 37 years. This is fast being eclipsed by Glock and Beretta has been in business since 1526 headquartered in Brescia Italy and is still a Privately sole ownership company to this very day.

A simple look at history will reveal that the 1911 was not a well designed or practical handgun after the 1930's.

That is all really great history, except Colt's Paterson factory closed down a few years before JMB designed the 1911; 1842 it closed, was auctioned off, and Patent Arms Manufacturing Co. went into bankruptcy. In 1846/47 Colt opened his next plant in Conn. in a factory owned by Eli Whitney. So it is plain to see that everything you wrote connecting the 1911 and Colt's Paterson, NJ plant is pure fiction, but I liked the story. :scrutiny:
 
I have both models but I like the 1911 & the 1911A1 style pistols much better. A classic design that will last another generation or so.

It is a good design, and the design will last for many generations... the design... but the Glock will also last, it could use a make over though... this is not about looks, its about dependability. the Glock will fire in alot more rough conditions that a 1911...
