Everything I have to say about war with Iraq
Posted on March 22, 2003 at 17:45:38 by ScaredAmerican
I didn't think it would come to this, but now I fear for the future of the world. I don't necessarily fear WWIII, or that there will be a massive retaliation, I fear that any possible outcome from this cannot be good, no matter what it is.
If America impresses the world with "shock and awe", then what? We live in a world kept in line by fear?
If the world sees the true problems and decides to retaliate, then what? The ONLY way that EVEN THE ENTIRE WORLD can match the US militarily is with nuclear weapons and it's just plain stupid to go down that road no matter what.
Bush pulled out of the anti-missile defense treaty for obvious reasons. He is waging a war on weapons of mass destruction for obvious reasons. WOMD are the only weapons keeping America in check, and its easy to build American support for going after countries that have them. America is going to bully the world into disarmament, and call all that defy American authority terrorists.
This is insanity.
I don't even know what to do or say. On the one hand I know that America is wrong in this matter 100% in every way shape and fashion. On the other hand I see no easy solutions to the problem even if the entire world agrees that America is wrong.
The only way to resolve the problem is for Americans to realize that its wrong and why its wrong and I don't believe that will happen on large enough scale to be truly effective in the long term.
We have taken such a horrible road, and this has been a long time coming
I will be honest about my perspectives. I am a Marxist non-communist. I mean I agree with the overall Marxist view on economics and history and the nature of the human condition, but I do not agree with his proposed solutions to the problems via communism. I agree with his analysis and way of thinking, not with his conclusions.
I believe that this is ultimately a problem that has been created by capitalism and has been brewing since America was formed. I know that this is what the communist revolution was about and was trying to address. They went about it the wrong way, but its not an easy problem to tackle. Now that Russia has gone under what is happening is exactly what they were trying to prevent in the first place.
These issues run too deep for an easy resolution. Americans are too ill informed. The situation in America is similar to that of Nazi Germany, but not as extreme. Fundamentalism is on the rise, churches are gaining power, and the people are encouraged to have faith, not look at facts.
As I drive to work I see SUVs with bumper stickers that say "Fear This!" with an image of the America flag on them. We have a president that uses the horrible term "Axis of Evil" to describe his target. I believe that the word Axis is used by him because it is related to the Axis powers of WWII. I believe that his speech writers know that it is a term that is deeply rooted in the minds of Americans as a word that describes the enemy and a word that is associated with a war that Americans believe we won and that can represent a return to the glory of that kind of global war.
I am afraid for American culture, it has robbed the people of a sense of reality. The people have no concept of the real principles behind American politics. Americans have lost all sense of economics. Most American "rebels" today are rebelling to the conservative side, not liberal. In polls I have seen often on Americans and economics the majority that disagree with the current system want to see a more free market system. Bush is proposing changes that will give America away to corporations at a time when it has little else to give. We have endured 20 years of corporate theft from the people but the people are so backwards that they believe the problem is caused by the poor.
I know that the French economic system is different, these things may not apply to you. I am pro-capitalist, but I am for regulated capitalism, more like it was in the 1950s in America, not like today. Today it is capitalist extremism running wild in America, its too much, and the economic fundamentals that point to this are lost on the public.
America is in a breakaway economic state. The country's economy has grown through expansion and imperialism over the past 200 years, yet hardly any Americans are even aware of these facts or if they are aware of the expansion they don't relate it to the economy. They believe in a divine economy, magically created through "hard work", while ignoring the reality of expansionism, the Indian wars that resulted in massive genocide, the war of 1812, the Mexican American War, the Spanish American war, the many small wars that have been fought in South America, including the revolution we inspired to create Panama. There is NO connection in the minds of Americans between these events and the growth of our economy, yet the reality is that they events have produced our economy.
You are Europeans, you know the realities of British, Spanish, and French imperialism, and I'm sure that you understand the economic fundamentals behind those situations. Americans can't see the truth about their own country and there is no encouragement to do so by American culture.
I fear that the "Manifest Destiny" that inspired Americans to "spread democracy" to the Natives of America by force, resulting in their virtual extinction, will be turned on the world at large now that our country has spread from sea to shining sea.
The only way our economy can survive is by force of conquest and imperialism. Americans will not let the economy die, it will be preserved at all costs, and Americans have no rational understanding of economic fundamentals.
As we go fourth reality is only more and more twisted here in America. Lies beget lies. People with no grounding in fundamental truths are left with only faith in their leaders and god to get them by. It's a sad situation and one that I feel horribly about. I am torn for love of my country and family and friends and hate for it's reality. I know that no matter what the outcome of this war is things will never be the same again and it scares me to a point unimaginable to me just days ago, before the war.
Most of all note that what I am saying here WOULD NEVER be printed in any American publication aside from a Free Press, that no one but a few ultra-liberals reads, and thatÕs usually just for the ads. It could be published in a book I suppose but no one would buy it, it would never make newspaper or magazine. ThatÕs NOT freedom of the press. America has entered a stage of self censorship, there is no need for a conspiracy.
A few links of interest:
This is a link showing all of Americans major military actions since its formation. It is narrated in a pro-American tone, so you can't exactly go by the descriptions of all the wars.

This is a report on American debt, a key indicator is future war activity IMO, as historically countries in high debt use war to attempt to get out of it.

This is a report put together that outlines America's real goals in this war, goals that were established prior to the Bush election:
http://cryptome.org/rad.htm
I believe that the elections were rigged and that Jeb Bush was involved. Jeb was a co-signer of a letter to Clinton in 1998 along with 10 other people that are currently on the Bush cabinet that was written by this same organization and called for a pre-emptive strike on Saddam. This war has been in the planning since 1992 by Dick Cheney. I believe that Powell did not run for office in 1996 as many asked him to because he was already part of this war team. I believe that the Clinton persecution was part of this plan to make sure that the Democrats would lose the election so that this war could be started.
Given this information I am positive that this war and its accompanying long term military goals were the primary force of the Bush plan for office from the beginning, yet he never mentioned it at all in any of his campaigns.
I hold out the possibility that the 9/11 attacks were somehow supported by the administration or at least allowed to go forward in order to prompt war, but I do not currently believe that it is true. I am open to the possibility but I don't have any facts that give me reason to believe it. I believe that war with Iraq would have started with or without the attacks though.
The link below is to the historic income tables of the US, which if you analyze you will see that for the past 20 years economic disparity has been increasing, another key indicator of future polarization and fundamentalism and economic crisis. On top of that Bush is proposing laws to increase the degree of the situation with more tax cuts to the rich.

I am not saying these things due to my political beliefs, these are hard facts that anyone with a mind for history and economics should be able to make sense of, yet they are lost here in America.
Below is a link to my account of the first part of American history. This is something I have been working on for the past year and is only a small portions of what I have written. The part covering the second half of history is still too rough to put up. This is intended to be inflammatory, but is only an overview. The details of this information are covered in more depth in other writings, and are more explanatory and less inflammatory. All things covered are facts nonetheless.
