Ladies and gents.

After a bit of lurking I have decided to join in on the fun.

Among the arms-related issues that interest me, one is equipping and preparing a rifleman. I’d appreciate a show of hands from those sharing that particular interest.

A little background:
I have young children.
I have some military experience from mid-80s, not in the US army.
I have a residence in New York - a very “anti-gun” locality.
I also have a house and a few acres of woods in upstate New York (Greene county) where I am building a small shooting range.
I am a libertatian (small “l”) of anarcho-capitalist bent (not to confuse with anarchists).

See you around.

Welcome to the list! Best of luck with the range, but I have to mention that Greene County is Central New York at best...it's not "Upstate New York" by hundreds of miles. ;)

Welcome miko. We have a few things in common:

A little background:
I too, have young children.

My non-Army military experience was in the early 90's. USMC
A Rifleman first...

I'm from NJ very anti-gun as well. My family has property in Chenango Co.
that we use for deer hunting.

I guess I'm just a regular old conservative losing faith in the Republican party more everyday.

See you around.

Welcome Aboard Miko

Welcome Aboard....

You'll find an interesting mix of characters here. We are a pithy and hearty lot. We get into some robust conversations about ideas, but that is what keeps this forum so healthy.

Keep your sense of humor intact, think open-minded, show respect for opposing points of view, and you'll get a lot out of The High Road experience.

P.S. Try to attend the next SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

Welcome to THR, miko! :) I'll take some .303, I'm a bit low on that at the moment. I pass on the beer.

You make it sound as if you were in a different Army. Do tell!

I think you'll like it here! :)

Welcome miko! I'll take .308 as well, and I'll be happy to adopt the beer that Eightball & entropy so heartlessly scorn.

I've no kids, but I like them fine, so long as they belong to someone else.

No military in my background.

Another AnarchoCapitalist! HUZZAH!!!! :D

Welcome!!

Welcome aboard miko, I'll take some .357Sig, and since it's still a bit pricier than .45, I'll pass on the beer/rootbeer.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Yes, it’s a silly term taken literally, but it has long changed to nominal rather than descriptive.
Wikipedia - Upstate New York: "Upstate New York is the region of New York State outside of the core of the New York metropolitan area."

Still losing it? A good dose of the “Road to Serfdom” by F.A. Hayek may speed up the process.
The Democrats and Greens are at least an honest bunch of socialists driving this society to ruin. The Republicans are a bunch of socialists doing the same that also discredit the ideals they pretend to support.

Anyone who wants to explain to this small-"l" libertarian just what "anarcho-capitalist" means, please PM me.
Small-“l” means that I am a proponent of libertarian (classical liberal) doctrine of individual rights and not a member of the Libertarian Party and that I disagree with their strategy, methods and motivations.
Unlike “monarchist” libertarians who believe that a minimal state may exist limited to protection of lives and property and not in violation of individual rights, “anarcho-capitalists” believe that being a territorial monopoly on violence by definition, the state cannot possibly stay limited or ever be compatible with individual rights.
The term “anarchist” is not used because:
a) Most people perceive it to mean “absence of order”, rather than “absence of ruler”.
b) Historically it has been usurped by socialists who tried to create a totalitarian state in order to destroy the institution of property.

Welcome, miko! I think I'll enjoy seeing you'll around here. I'm not fit to shake the hand of anyone who's served, but I do so anyhow. I hope that someday to have the discipline and skill of a rifleman, so I enjoy seeing that is one of your interests.

Howdy and welcome miko, i to believe in training others in becoming Riflemen.
The question that remains to be asked tho is what kind of guns do you own :D

Bah, Humbug! While military service often brings valuable experience, it does not improve a person’s morality in any special way compared to other pursuits.
The Founding Fathers had nothing but contempt and apprehension for soldiering in service of a state – be it drafted slave-soldiery or a professional enforcement paid for with coercively-extracted taxes.
A militia supplemented with private (mercenary) contractors is the only military that free people could have and remain free for any period of time.

I have been a tank (T-72) gunner for a while. Then my civilian skills (rock-climbing, mountain hiking, distance running and skiing, training service dogs and electronics) got me transferred to a kind of a recon. patrol unit the army felt the need of at the time.
The question of my arsenal (present, future and ideas) warrants a special thread. Discussing it is the main reason why I joined this forum.

Hey Miko! Welcome and glad to meet you. :)
USN Helicopter Crewman 1968-1972
Been around guns and hunting as far back as I can remember.
We have 2 grown and off on their own daughters.
I'm becoming very frustrated with the fact the Republicans control the White House as well as the Senate and the House and don't seem to be doing anything to put the gun grabbers in their place.
Both my wife and I love hunting and we're avid summer backpackers. I've done some rock climbing and mountaineering, but I'm afraid neither my knees and hips, nor my budget will stand it anymore.
Please spend the money for my ammo and beer on your kids. If there's any left over though, I could use some .30 caliber, 165 grain Speer Grand Slam bullets and some Alaskan Summer Ale. I wouldn't turn down a can of RL-22 powder either.
