I have so many tupperwear guns, they all shoot the same and are extra boring. My most carried gun is a CZ P07 in boring 9mm. That’s because I don’t have the skills!
oooh no! I have sold 3 gun and traded 1 in my life. I miss them! Glock 23, JA22, 10/22 takedown stainless… traded out a Ruger M77 .243trade a few of those Tupperware guns for a 357. Problem solved.
I almost had a Walter PP .32, but the girl pawned it and could not get it out. It was my Cousin’s wife, they were fighting, I told her to keep the money. They were fighting over money, and I figure a couple bucks to keep a family together… oooh wellI never noticed either .38Spl or .357Mag going away. They’ve always been popular around here. Then again I’m not “cool” and neither are my redneck friends or my programmer coworkers. We’re squares… squared! And .38’s .45’s .44’s are still cool to me. Always have been. Even .32’s are cool. In wheelguns and auto
Nah. Guns are completely nonjudgmental. But they can be incestuous. I put a Smith & Wesson 10-2 in the safe next to a Llama Comanche. Six weeks later I had a Rossi 581. Moved the Llama and left the Rossi. Six weeks later I had a Taurus 66.Do have to admit- wish I could have a j frame magnum cut for moon clips and Use 9mm.
Would be a nice Nich gun for the Apocalypse. Yet I’m not doing that to any old revolvers- Would be offended or the others in the safe would point and laugh.
What’s not to like? How about cleaning the revolver after a shooting session? That is my LEAST favorite part of revolver shooting.Guess I am waaaay ahead of this trend. I have always owned way more 357 firearms than any 9MM ones. Conversly I have 5X more 9MM brass as well. l like being able to manage my brass retreival better, use 38 SPL brass/loads in 357 brass, and generally shoot better low power loads with them. What's not to like here.
Be glad you didn’t get it. There’s better.32’s for playing with on a range.I almost had a Walter PP .32, but the girl pawned it and could not get it out. It was my Cousin’s wife, they were fighting, I told her to keep the money. They were fighting over money, and I figure a couple bucks to keep a family together… oooh well
good point! new shooter need to understand the penetrating power of Hard Cast!Just a note of power
Dan Wesson took multitude of large game with the 357mag, including Grizzly and Elk
Phil Shoemaker took a Grizzly with a 9mm hardcast.
Just saying,The Two .355-357 diam Can both get the job done, regardless of what the interweb says.
I clean at the range! Get it done and put it awayWhat’s not to like? How about cleaning the revolver after a shooting session? That is my LEAST favorite part of revolver shooting.
TV show popularity has brought the .357 magnum into focus for newer shooters, hence the Walkibg Dead reference. Just like Lt Callaghan’s model 29 brought out the .44 Mag craze.
I, for one, am glad to see the .357 (and even .38) get some love from younger shooters. Once they start branching out into other calibers and handguns I think they’ll become more attuned to the efforts to take their guns away and (hopefully) vote 2A.
In the meantime welcome them into the fold, they’re the future of shooting in the US.
Long live the .357 (and .38… Stay safe.
It was my first centerfire revolver caliber, a Taurus Model 66 6” in satin nickel. I don’t have that gun anymore, a victim of my limited finances and relentless bills, but I’ve replaced it several times over with S&W K and L frames over the years ..357 is the most versatile revolver cartridge out there. I started loading for a Ruger Blackhawk .357 around 1973. It's a winner and I still load it. I just don't carry one anymore.
Quality over quantity Coal…Come on man, you haven't logged a lot of range time, have you?
Before covid and the last election the brass buckets at the range were full of 9x19. I gleaned thousands of cases from those buckets. .357 maybe a hundred.
Unless something has changed which I'm not aware of, 357 will have a long way to catch up to 9x19 in use. 45 ACP isn't that popular yet it exceeds the 357 in the amount of discarded brass, at my range anyway. I would say even .40 S&W exceeds it and we all know what a dead cartridge that is.
This is an odd thread. Simply, because I was at the range last week and yesterday and both days there were people renting .357 Magnum revolvers. I wouldn’t say these people were “hipsters” but younger guys and gals.
I heard one counter guy say to the range master how odd it was that people were all of a sudden interested in .357 Magnums.
I saw one guy deciding which revolver he wanted to shoot with his family, I assume, and he wasn’t to happy that they didn’t have .357 Magnum ammo but they did have .38 Special.
Might be an odd coincidence. Who knows.[/QUOTE\]
Nois a coincide
I’m going to start adding a SAA .357 with 125g doing 12-ish to my carry rotation. need to look for some nice HP bullets in the 125 range. Speed and expansion is what I’m looking forI don't know if it is making a comeback, if it is it will be the first time I am trending. Carried a 1911 for decades and a few years ago I decided to change to a revolver. First revolvers I owned were .357 calibers in the 80's. My only reason than was I loved the look of the 686 and the python and I could shoot 38's out of it which was cheaper before I learned to reload.
