I have a 92FS and I like it. I also have a Glock 26 that I carry everyday.
My question is made because I want to buy a Glock 17 or maybe a 19, I think the 17 y thje perfect combo for my 26.

Can you tell me is one is better than the other, I mean in durabillity and reliabillity.

Please excuse my english, I´m just learning it.

Greetings from Maracaibo-Venezuela.

I own a 92 INOX and a Glock 17 they are both great guns. I wouldn't say one is better than the other. If you want to keep the same kind of trigger pull I would go for the G17. I really can't pick which one is better but the 92 is a better looker but who cares if the bad guy thinks your gun is ugly.

Welcome to THR!

You're going to find both guns have their following, saying one is better than the other is not a clear cut yes or no. Some people will swear by the Beretta and others will swear by the Glock. It really comes down to personal preference and what you are looking for in a handgun.

Both guns are great but depending on the purpose of the gun will determine which is better for you. Personally I'm not big into Glocks but I really love the Beretta 92, does that mean the Beretta is better, absolutely not.

My advise is to go with the gun that fits your needs the most and determine which gun feels best to you.

fjmaring,

Welcome.

Your English is just fine. I wish that my Spanish was as good as your English. Unfortunately, it is not. Stick around here and I am certain that you will improve your English greatly over time.

You cannot go wrong with any of the Glock pistols. Both the 17 and the 19 are excellent firearms in their own right and regardless of whatever you select, you will end up with a great pistol. The 17 and 19 possess equal durability and reliability and the only real difference lies in their physical dimensions. The 19, being somewhat smaller will be more easily concealed, the 17 will offer you a slight increase in magazine capacity (more bullets) and a slightly longer grip surface if your hands tend to be larger.

I am curious, though. How much does it cost to purchase a Glock 17 or 19 in Venezuela and how difficult is the process to acquire one?

The Glock 17 also offers 17 rounds in the magazine while the Beretta 92 offers only 15 rounds.
And the Glock weighs less than the Beretta too....

Both guns empty:

G17=22 oz.
92=35 oz.

Heck, even a fully loaded G17 weighs less than an empty 92.

fjmaring, I can understand your English better than half the people on the internet! Welcome. I have had a Glock 23,27 and a Beretta 92F. I really like all the guns. My favorite however is the glock and I prefer the 9mm caliber. I am getting ready to buy a 19 or 17.

I have extensive experience with both,

If I were in a situation where I was running for my life from bad guys, and a fairy landed with these two guns in her hands and told me to pick one, it would be the Glock. If I had a very limited budget, and I were in a pawn shop, and had to choose between equally priced used Beretta 92 and Glock 17, I wouldn't even pick the Beretta up to try it out.

As an assistant armorer in Germany, I watched soldiers do stupid things to M-9s that a Glock would not be vulnerable to. (Particularly taking off the grips and playing with the springs.) I saw takedown levers get broken, grips cracked, just things you want to take for granted but can't. Also, the 92 is quite bulky for a 9mm, and the design makes it impossible to re-chamber it to .45. Poor planning in my opinion.

I have put 1000's upon 1000's of rounds through my Beretta 92fs' and my Glock 19...is one better than the other? NO, not even a little bit. If you do your part, it'll perform as expected. Now if you're looking for a match for your 26, the 17 might be a nice gun since the triggers would be the same & you could use the 17 mags in the 26 for the added capacity...my 2 cents :D

Beretta vs Glock? I also have extensive experience with both platforms and frankly most folks can't, or have difficulty seating an M-9 in their hands properly because of the width of the backstrap. Toss in the length of trigger pull and you've got a big hit right there. Glock is stronger, particularly their slides, ditto for the Glock frame, and even if you have problems with the frame it's easily replaced. Glocks are simple to maintain and with all parts interchangeable with every other Glock of same caliber, well thats a big hit to. Beretta is topdog when it comes to accuracy, they can be remarkably accurate, as to reliability, with Beretta factory mags I've personally had fewer malfunctions with the three beretta's I've owned as compared to all my Glocks, and that will probably raise an eyebrow or two around here! No, to my mind reliability is not an issue with any 92(although many vet's of the war on terror aren't happy with those low-bid mags)and they easily fly with Glock.
Head to head I'd go Glock, they're just so easy to pack and handle compared to the 92-series pistols, 92's with bloody, or fluid covered hands become awfully clumsy to handle, if I was gonna be shooting a steady supply of very high pressure ammo I wouldn't even consider the 92. The big hit on the 92 to my mind though remains it's bulk, there just to damn big...;)

I would vote for the Glock 19 over the 17, it is a bit smaller and better for carry and concealment. I have both and carry the 19. The two extra rounds that the 17 has is not going to make a difference. In a stand off confrontation, most shoot outs take place between 3 to 15 feet, last about 2 to 5 seconds, and approximately 3 to 5 rounds are fired.

I have a 92fs and love it but if you are looking for a carry gun you should go with the Glock. Reason being, with the 92fs, whether it's loaded or unloaded, you can push the slide/barrel back which stops the gun from firing. This would be bad in a self defense situation if for some reason a bad guy has his hands on your gun or the gun is tight to his chest. Though I don't know if they changed this in any of the FS variants.

Beretta's standard magazines now run 17 rounds, to equal the Glock 17 in capacity.

Beretta grip size isn't a problem for me, neither is trigger reach and I'm 5'8" and have small hands too.

That said, Glocks are less likely to be tinkered with.

Here in Venezuela any Glock cost around $5.000.
Is hard to get a permit, but thanks God, I´ve got mines.
Just for now (por ahora), as our "president" says.
Who knows, maybe our "president", will decide that venezuelans doesn´t deserve to have carry permits or wthatever he decides in his courius mind.

Couple of thoughts for ya..

Quote: rented a Glock 17, XD9 and 92FS. I bought the 92FS. 'Nuff said.

First, welcome to THR.. and your English is very very good.. :)

What was said above, with the exception of what gun to buy is, "rent them and shoot them" first if you can, then you'll know, in both grip, weight, point to aim, and accuracy, especially with fast, follow-up shots.

As mentioned, weight for ccw is a factor to think about.. heavy is heavy all day, light is lighter all day.

Guess the last thought is, do you want a hammer-less gun (striker) like the Glock, or do you want DA/SA with hammer than you can "see" and have the option of thumb-cocking it into SA mode, very quickly if you want.

Enjoy this first journey and the long road ahead in handguns..

My best,

Ls

The Beretta is a well made, durable, accurate gun. With that said, I would pick the Glock 10 times over. The Beretta has two trigger pulls to learn, it has a decocker lever, and a safety lever to learn how to use. One of these is on the rear of the slide which interferes with cycling the slide. The Glock has no decocker, only one trigger pull to learn, and no user control other than the trigger and the magazine release. I don't count the slide lock, since I don't use it. No one should. Racking the slide utilizes the spring to its fullest compression, the slide lock does not. Bottom line from a usability perspective, Glock. The Beretta is a poorly designed combat weapon. Too many levers, safeties, gee gaws, jim cracks and whiz bangs. I prefer the 19 and 26. The 17 is a great gun, but on the large side.

Just my opinion, but you asked.

9500-rounds and counting through my 2006 G17, and not one hiccup! ;)

The Beretta just feels a lot better in my hands. As much as I like the Glock 17 I've come to the conclusion that the Glock 19 fits me better. I wouldn't sell a Beretta for a Glock, but I would save up my pennies and add a Glock down the road.;)

Is that 5,000.00 U.S. Dollars or Venezuelan currency? If it is 5,000.00 in Venezuelan currency how does that convert to equivalent U.S. Dollars?

I understand why you are posing the question as to what action your Government/Leadership might do with regard to the ability to privately own and possess firearms assuming that what the Media here tell us regarding your situation is correct. Not sure if the Venezuelan Constititution guarantees you these rights or not.

If you can speak to these issues, I would be happy to hear about the state of firearms ownership in Venezuala and the related issues and expenses, but if such rhetoric could endanger you and your safety and welfare then I understand your inability to discuss such material given those concerns.

Buenos noches,

GS
