Is the Hi-Point 9mm a fun range gun?

I'm thinking of getting a cheap 9mm for a range plinker.

and Hi Point is about as cheap as you can get for 9mm.

So how is it shooting a couple of boxes at the range?

I did this very thing. I picked up a C9 that was priced at $80, just to kick around at the range. I never shoot it anymore. I have a lot of other guns that are ten times more fun to shoot. I keep telling myself that I need to get it back out and take it shooting, but there's just no more interest in it. We chunked it in the glovebox. Pretty good truck/car gun IMO.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from the Hi Point. They are inexpensive enough to tryout and they work. When it comes time to load up the bag and head out to the range, I just never seem to want to grab for the Hi Point anymore. I guess the novelty wore off quickly for that one. I'm still interested enough in a number of other guns, that I'm more eager to take them out when I get a day to go shooting. I guess the one gun that I just can't shoot enough of is the XD, but also my P11 since it is my daily carry. I just ALWAYS want to shoot those guns, and I never have ammo sitting around anymore since getting them. I buy ammo, and it all gets shot up at the next range trip, but none of it goes through the Hi Point. I doubt I'll ever get rid of it though. It's doing what I want it to do.

They make good cheap defensive guns but they aren't much fun to shoot at the range. They're just a clunky 9mm.

A cz 82 is about the same price and a hell of a better gun. Also 9x18 is pretty much the same cost (or cheaper) then 9x19

If you just want something cheap for the range and plinking in the woods, then yes it would be just fine.

Id say yes, It would make a great range gun.

This is why:
I just took all my "Work" type handguns out for practice and took along my moms Walther PPS9 that i sold her, For dirt cheap i may add.
Also i took along my XD SC .40 and my full sized 1911.
The small PPS actually started hurting my hand in the web of my thumb.
The little bit larger XD didn't hurt my hand but i didn't shoot it the best.
The 1911 shot like a laser and felt like it was made for my hand, And handled the recoil much better than either of the other 2 guns.

Whats that mean? It means that size and weight make for a fun shooting range gun.
As long as it fits your hands or you can add extra slip on grips from Hogue.

9mm is $9 a box locally.
.40 is $14
.45 is $17

9mm is a no brainer for a range caliber. Add a big heavy gun thats very low priced and a lifetime warranty you cant go wrong.
IF you don't like the gun, You can sell it and hardly loose any money at all.

Second option is a used Ruger P95 which is a much higher quality gun, But wont do anything the HP wont.

Where the heck is anyone getting a CZ anything for $120? That's what a Hi-Point 9mm goes for around here, the .45 is about $140, the .380 is about $100 even.

Either hi-points are very overpriced in your area, or you have some really good prices in your area.
