Is their such thing as an inexpensive, high-capacity .40 or .45 caliber gun?

Witness makes a very competent 10-round .45 for a very reasonable price.
They have some nicer versions of the same gun, as well. (I have an older Sport Long Slide that is about as good a .45 as you'll find -- it shoots right with guns costing 4-5 times more...)

Its usually the price of the mags that makes a high cap capable gun more expensive. Para Ordnance high cap .45 mags are the least expensive I've seen so far, <$60 on some outfit.

Hi, Was looking for the same thing in .40 . Bought a CZ40B from CDNN for $249.95 + $9.95 s/h + $30 ffl fee = $289.90 . Will soon find out if the EEA witness .41 mags will give Me 12 rds . Took it out yesterday to put a few rounds thru it . Wally-world value pack 165grs all went bang . pointed well also. I am very pleased with this weapon so far !!! .........WVleo

It retails for around $400-$425 before tax. But of course, only 10 round mags availible...If you were to get the 9mm version, then you can use the 40-10 rnd mags to hold 15 rounds of 9mm without being in violation of the AWB.

Glocks a good one, available locally in Florida for $495 +tax.
Depends on what you define as high capacity. There are plenty of affordable 10 round guns out there.
Now if you want a 14 or 15 shot .45 then your options get a lot smaller. Para's go for around $600 on up, with magazines costing around $50 on up. Kimber polys are similar price, however be prepared to pay at least $75 a magazine. STI high caps start around $1000 or so, SVI, well, it is going to be awhile before I can afford one of those.
Glock 21s can hold 13 rounds, however I believe the magazines are around $70-$90. Glock 22s can hold 15 rounds of .40 however the magazines are going to cost about the same.
