Is your rifle 400yd ready?

All my tactical type rifles (LMT MWS .308, LMT MRP 5.56, and custom 6.5CM) have tested dope out to 800, dope cards to 1000 (I'm guessing on 900 and 1000) in the scopes, dial-a-drop scopes, and are ready to go. 400y really isn't that far - I'd be 100% confident of hits on a 8" gong unless the wind was > 10MPH. With the 6.5CM more like 20MPH.

Long range hunting rifles get the same treatment, although I only run them out to 600y (and would only shoot at 400-500y).

Where I live, there aren't anywhere near straight line 400 yards of open ground to shoot. Yes, I have fields that get planted, but these are around or through occasional patches of woods or brush. A little hilly here also, so the hills kind of block some of the views out very far.

Hard around here to get a 400 yard shot. I am all dialed with with most rifles to 300 yards. Got good calculations for beyond 300. I know they get you close since they got me to 300.

Armored Farmer, hi long time since we talked. My go to rifle is a Mod 70 variant sporter with a Variable power scope and I have it zeroed for 300 yards and I know that I can aim one foot over that and be on at 400 yards but then again it is a 30.06. I just shot it the first time yesterday since my heart surgery (don't tell the wife) as the Doc said he did not want me shooting anything for six months but rib cage is doing well and I have a old 10x shooting coat with big shoulder pad and the wife was gone all day and I declared a play day haha.

While I was down I replaced the scope mount that was on it with a Aimtech second sight base (now discontinued) and decided to zero the rifle while he warden was gone. I am going to look for a higher front sight as on that rifle as the front is not high enough.for the Aimtech base. It is a Mod 70 made for Sears Roebuck and shoots exceptionally well for a sporter..

Good to see you are still on line.

The last two opportunities for coyotes have been 400 yd shots. I missed them both.
My go to rifle is my Ruger SR 556 with Nikon 3x P223.
It is back to the bench rest for me and my rifle.
I am determined to become proficient at 400yds.
I may be running short of glass at 400yds, but i should be able to stay inside paper plate diameter.
I was shooting factory Hornady vmax, but im not getting great groups, so im changing ammo too.

Will your 'go to' rifle do 400yds consistently? Are you sure?
If so, what is it? How is it set up..?

Not to brag but I nailed 2 woodchucks at that distance with my SAKO. I held over them a bit and may have been a bit lucky but they both were dead on one shot. (as it should be)

Hi humpy.!
All is well here on tbe farm. Getting ready to put '18 crop in tne ground.
Our local hs has allowed us to start s trapshooting team! #3 son is involved, i am a coach. Well see how it goes. We're all excited though.

My .308 target rifle will consistently put 20 rounds inside 1 MOA at 500 yards.

None of my other rifles come close to that.

I shot a PRS match for the first time today. I can now say yes, my rifle is 400 yard ready, and can be pushed out to at least 600 yards, if I can see the target well enough.
