Brethren,

My wife and I live in the Denver Metro Area. We completed our Concealed Carry Class on January 8th. At the class the instructor informed us that the county that we live in (Arapahoe) will only take concealed carry applications by appointment and they take appointments only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I was cool with that until I called the Arapahoe Sheriff’s office on January 9th and they told me that the next available appointment date is April 26th!!! That is three and a half months from the date that I called! Then, according to the instrutor, I may have to wait as long as another three months before the permits actually get here because Arapahoe is slow about processing the applications. :fire:

I know it. This is my fault. I was lazy when I moved here from Texas and I did not replace the Texas permit ASAP. Consequently, I got caught up in the inauguration wave. I know, I could have avoided this. But six months seems ridiculous!!!

How long was your wait?

7 days down, 83 to go in Weld County...

That whole appointment thing is a bit bizarre. In Weld County you just show up at the Sheriff's office with all the paperwork and money. They have you sign the form in their presence, and that's it - the wait begins.

I guess Araphahoe County would prefer not issuing permits, because they are certainly discouraging application.

It took about 60 days to get my Florida CCW back. I am an IL resident and I applied for Florida because it is probably the best that I can get with no CC in IL.

Sorry to hear that, here in Flathead County, Mt I understand now only day to apply is on Weds, pay $60.00 and get it in the mail in 3 days.

You might consider getting a FL non resident CCW It will probably be much faster and just as legal in your state I'm pretty sure (you will have to check to see if your state accepts FL CCW) I believe it is up to 38 states now so most likly that would work. My permit cost $117.00 for 7yrs and you already have your gun class so you should be good there.
Just somthing to think about

I live in Colorado Springs. When I made my appointment I had to wait about 3 weeks to get in, and then it only took about 2 1/2 weeks to get the card in the mail. The amusing thing was that while I was in the office finishing paperwork, someone came in and handed the lady my card! I said "that was quick". She wouldn't let me have it. :( Making the card only takes seconds, validating it takes time.

Our Class instructor joked about this. They can get it to you in a matter of days, but they do not have a sense of urgency. He was saying that it may sit on a desk for a couple weeks before they even begin the process.

Colorado no longer recognizes out-of-state permits for state residents (30 days residence in CO).

oh boy, here comes the non-resident can of worms...

Whats wrong with a non-resident license?

I had a Texas permit and it recently expired. In fact, I found myself in this situation because I waited for the Texas permit to expire before going for my Colorado Permit. I want to avoid the drama of dealing with Denver police and a a non-resident permit. I am unaware of the legality issues, but I do know that they can be a little difficult when it come to an out of State permit.

Hell, I am in North Carolina and it took almost all 90 days to get my permit back to me, after the appointment I waited a month for. I even had to drive to pick it up. A co-worker got his in 6 weeks and they mailed it to him. We both live in the same county and I lived here longer than he did! :cuss: I called and asked if I could laminate it, they told me they would call back with an answer. A week later I called again and was told I would be contacted, but its only been almost a year so I am sure they will get back with me very soon

There's nothing "a little difficult" about it. If you live in CO, you have to have a CO permit.

Eagles6,

I was not paying attention to the panic that Obama inspired among 2nd ammendment advocates. As a result, I did not notice all of the people who were trying to get their CCW before Janurary 20th. I chose January because my Texas permit expired in December. I show up in January and there is a mass of people who chose that month because of the inauguration. I refer to this as the "wave."

Well, here in Ohio, we're all unemployed or underemployed... but we get our CCW permits quickly. I took my class on a Friday, called to make an appointment at the CCW office on Monday, went to the office and applied on Tuesday, picked up my license on Wednesday!

They also don't recognize out of state permits if you're not a resident of the issuing state. So a Florida permit would only be good for a Florida resident, not, for example, a Virginian with a Florida permit.

Holy cow. What's happening to my beloved Colorado? First they swing for you know who and now that? I'm stationed in Arkansas and the max is 4 months here but people recently have gotten them back in 5 days! Mailed my last Friday so we'll see.

Here in Deshcutes County my appointment was 3 weeks out, and my permit was delivered in about 3 weeks. Some of the local firearms classes regularly have 30-40 people attending.

The truly annoying thing is the wait between now and April 26th. I have the packets all ready to go and I am unable to at least drop them off for processing. Why do I have to wait until that day? Are they going to interview us?

:confused::confused::confused:
