Must be something about Texas that makes folks think it is the last vestige of the Wild West. I remember as a teen (1970s) someone telling me that it is perfectly legal to drink alcohol while driving a motor vehicle on public roads in Texas.

Well by damn we even have paved roads nowadays!

Most people in this day and age can't understand that having a beer or something while you're driving and driving drunk are not necessarily the same thing.

A note about Texas and alcohol laws.
As late as the 1970's it was still legal to drink alcohol while driving if you were in a wet precinct or county, as long as you were not drunk. I think that has changed since my days there. However, it was also very tricky, because JP precincts were smaller parts of counties, and each could vote wet or dry independent of the county. We lived in Dallas where there was a checkerboard of wet and dry precincts.

Yes, driving with open container is one thing while driving while intoxicated is another.
