This California-bashing becomes tedious. I think the Other Forty-Nine should be worrying about their own economies, frankly. CA has been subsidizing you, not the other way around, I hate to break it too you. Take CA out of the national economic pot and you have big trouble in River City, amigos. It is evident that a lot of people on THR have a tourist's conception of California. Yeah, we have our "kooks," we also have, in Los Angeles, one of the most diverse economies in the nation, if not the world, even with the drain of illegal immigration. The socialist manias that you identify with CA didn't arise here, and a big chunk of CA is people who came here from elsewhere--and did better for it. Look beneath the "kookery" and you will find, in L.A., some very hardworking, innovative, open-minded people who, like much of this country, find themselves unrepresented by their politicians. That disconnect, not unique to CA, is the real problem.

Damn right, well said. I'm from NYC, I came here and I absolutely did better. People forget how much money this state generates...

Not exactly correct sure CA economie is the biggest of the fifty states but take CA out of the mix and see how fast the other 49 economies grow. CA econonie is strong because of many factors good weather, good natural reasources, hard working people but mostly because of the economic and military power of the collective whole of the USA. Take CA out of that mix and watch how fast she goes into a free fall spin but it would be the same for any state. Many of the best and brightest from all over the USA have been going to CA for years sort of subsidizings her if you will, let CA leave the USA and those people will just go somewhere else.

Each of the fifty states need the whole more then the fifty need anyone state.

I moved from California to Taiwan..

I can CCW a knife here.. Which I couldn't do in California..

I paid $4.96 in taxes last year....

A gun in the home is about the ONLY advantage California offers me over Taiwan.. (But thankfully, I have Chinese sized cleavers I can throw to overcome this shortcoming)
