It never fails finding a rifle deal after you already bought one…

I pulled the trigger (no pun intended) on a left hand Savage 116 in .300 WSM on gunbroker a couple of weeks ago, received the rifle and started building loads for it. Paid $570 ish after shipping and am happy with the purchase. While visiting Pigeon Forge TN this week I ran I to Bass Pro to see if they had any primers (which was a wasted stop) and looked over the used guns and low and behold, there sat a Tikka left hand stainless bolt in .300 Winchester Magnum for $750. First left handed bolt I’ve seen on the shelves in years.

Needless to say, had I not purchased the Savage, I would have definitely picked up the Tikka….

That I have found to be a fact let me find something I want at a decent price and within no time something else I want will be On sale For Cheaper!

Try this. Buy a newly released big ground blind . 30% off. Two weeks later the "sale" price is the regular price. Thanks Cabela's

I have had a couple of similar incidents.
A few years ago I bought a S&W 60 Pro for $726. A couple of days later they went on sale at the same store for $100 less.

That’s a Bass Pro thing. When they bought out Cabela’s I started noticing similar things. All the prices on RCBS reloading accessories jumped in price. 2 weeks later they were on sale for the price they were prior to the price bump.

I always thought there should be a way to put out an apb on firearms that are being seriously sought after by fellow thr members.
As an example, my lgs has an unfired Remington automatic in .270 really nice wood. What model is it?? 742?
$999.
....someone wants it.

Funny thing is, as a reloader, all of my Savages have outshot me….and at a lower price point.
no regerts, then, lol. I know what I'd do. I'd buy them both and sell whichever one I didn't like.
Nice thing about lefty bolt actions, if you have a left handed friend you've got a captive market

Savages do tend to be consistently very accurate.....which is mildly amazing considering they use big ol pipe bender to eyeball straiten barrels, and the insides usually look like cheese graters lol. Ive owned alot of savages, and will probably own a few more. Personally, since the Tikkas are relatively short in the mag id have passed on a .300wm, but ive also never seen one of those shoot poorly.

That's why I asked the guy at our Cabela's store service counter if I could borrow a scissors. The nice kid gave me one post-haste and looked on horrified as I cut up my Cabela's CC and handed everything to him.

BPS is the ruination of a once great company.

Tikkas have such a long throat, it surprises me to some extent how conservative the mag length is.

Bass pro and now Cabela's are nothing more than tourist traps. Cabela's was much better before the buyout. Down in the city they have two Bass pro and one Cabela's. Been shopping them since they were built. I feel I have plenty of experience and history with them to comment.

The sad part is it seems the quality of their in house goods, i.e., their clothing, has dropped substantially since the takeover by Bass Pro.

There was one of each about 5 miles apart near me. Now they have closed down the Bass Pro and built another, again, about 5 miles apart, along the same highway, with the same goods. Illogical to me, but what do I know?

OP, good luck with your new gun!

By the same token I have a friend that always wants to buy either gold or a certain stock when the price gets to “X”. Of course even if it gets there, he always convinces himself that it will go lower so he can get a screaming deal. Gold was “too much” at $1,250. Now it’s over $2,000.

Somehow we convince ourselves that we have to get the best deal ever on a gun, but gladly put $100 in our gas tank and burn it up in a week. If it was a good enough deal at the time, it was good enough. Quit obsessing and enjoy your rifle

Kmart was better. Remember the 3 fer sub sandwich 's. Nothing compares to bass pro
In the late 1960's and early 70's my hunting buddy worked for Kmart at their giant Sparks NV warehouse. We used his discount to buy our duck hunting ammo and the 3 for a $ hoagies. We lived on those on our hunting trips. I also bought a decent 14' aluminum boat from them...he bought it. ;) it was about $130.00 his price OTD.

I miss K-Mart.........."Attention K-Mart Shoppers"..........

The only thing better than a new Savage is a second hand Savage that you saved a bunch of money on.
I own several Savage rifles and for the money I don't think I could find a better rifle.

My first ever bolt action rifle was a Savage 10BA in 308.
I put 4800 rounds through it before replacing the barrel.
Before the barrel was toast it would shoot between .4moa-.6moa.
The rifle was and is dead nuts reliable.
I liked the rifle so much I bought a second one when I found someone selling one for about half of what it cost new. I replaced the barrel on that one to go to 6BR Norma.

I bought a Savage 12FV in 6.5 Creedmoor (Cabela's Special) which sells for $429. I put it in an MDT LSS-XL from their black Friday sale and shot this load developmenton target literally on it's first day out.

I bought a used 110BA in 338 Lapua for $900 that only had 1/2 a box of ammo through it.
can't complain how it shoots either.

Basselas Pro can take a flying leap off a tall cliff as far as I’m concerned. I hate that chain and their idiotic store policies in regards to the gun counter.

In any case here’s one for you. I put the bucks together and finally pulled the trigger on a Fierce Carbon Rage in 7 PRC with the intention of making it into a perfect mountain rifle.

Yesterday, a week after buying the fierce I find out that Sig is coming out with a Cross style folding rifle called the Sawtooth in 7PRC…

1st world problems.

I also believe Savage rifles are about as accurate as it gets out of the box... unless you get the base model with the flimsy stock that flexes into contacting the barrel. Even these can be fixed with steel rods and epoxy. Took a savage axis I worked over (bedded the action, stiffened the stock, and recrowned the barrel to fix a nick) for my son to a shooters course at Butner one time. The instructor laughed when I pulled "the walmart rifle" out. He stopped laughing, shook his head, and walked away when I was making first round hits on 12" bullseye targets at 1000 yards.
