It really suits you

Thanks for the memory, Nightlord. I was once the 21 or 22 year old kid who bought an FEG HiPower clone. 30 years later, I still have it. :)
I actually like the ring hammer, extended release, and the little flair at the base of the grip better than my FN. The bluing isn't quite as good, and the grips are a tad rougher- but overall its a damn nice gun.

For everyday use and carry, its this .45 Colt Blackhawk from Ruger:

For real serious shooting, its this Ruger Super Blackhawk:

For real casual plinkin' and general powder burnin', its this .38 Special Uberti Open Top Navy:

For somethin' between serious and casual, got to be one of these:

If this guy ain’t a Texan...

I find that I am a 1911 pattern guy. I was using a standard 1911 at work fro several years and decided to get a 1911 .380 Government model. That was back in the 80's. The .380 quickly became a favorite, only to spend a few years in exile to a Makarov.
IMG_20170728_120213559.jpg

The Makarov came about for several reasons. One was that I was finding it hard to find a holster for the .380. Then I had an employer that forbade the .380 anyways (but was fine with the Makarov .. .go figure that out).
IMG_20170728_120131814.jpg

Later my daughter absconded with the Makarov and claims it is her's (but it is in my Gunsafe!). When I returned to the states I got a Glock 42; frankly, I never bonded to it. I also purchased a Walther PK380 to see if my daughter would like it better than the Makarov. I now have a Walther. . . ( and I took her to a few gun stores. her first pick is a Ruger SP101 in .327. Her second pick is a Smith & Wesson air-weight .38)

I went back and picked up the .380 Government Model from my fathers safe. However, in the meantime I have purchased a Kimber Micro .380. The Kimber seems to be a keeper too. So I am going to say that I seem to like the 1911 pattern. I know it has faults, and I keep trying to find something I will like better. However, I seem to keep coming back to it.

Can't find anything wrong with that line of reasoning. Had a Colt Government .380, liked it a lot but so did my brother, so I sold it to him and bought an AMT Back-Up .380. Liked the stainless steel construction and the diminutive size but overall quality was a little spotty, the trigger pull was very heavy, and there were no sights really to speak of. Into the picture comes the new Colt Mustang and just as quickly out goes the AMT Back-Up .380. Still have the Colt Mustang and added another fine little .380, the SIG P238, to the pocket pistol line-up.

I carry a S&W .38 Safety Hammerless that I customized in a pocket holster in my right rear pocket most days in the workshop, and since that's where I spend most of my time that makes it my most-carried gun.

It's in the same power-range as a .380 auto, and it would be smarter to carry one of those but you asked what 'suits us,' and this suits me.
Other occasions? I carry what suits the occasion. In the field it's either a .45 Colt or a full-size single-action .44 Magnum. For lightweight 'social carry' this is a favorite-

It looks bulky, but the footprint is the same as a J-frame. The flats on the cylinder allow it to carry six shots while being no thicker than the 5-shot. It's mostly aluminum construction keeps it reasonably light as well.
If I want something heavier for social carry there's one overwhelming choice-

Yeah, I know. It's archaic, heavy, low capacity, inefficient caliber... Don't Care. It suits me and I shoot it well. In a proper holster it's easy to carry, nice and flat. Plus I've been around 1911s so long and put so many rounds through them that the manual of arms is practically hardwired.

You ask me, those are all drool worthy! Well.....maybe not the Rhino, lol.
How cool would it be if S&W reintroduced the top breaks! Maybe a .22 or .380 to test the market, then move up to a 9mm or .38spl. C'mon Smith, let's see something old be new again!

And no $%&#@ side lock!

I still have the original grips somewhere. The only time it ever malfunctioned was when I shot a $5 box of Chinese 9mm through it. High Powers sure do fit nicely in the hand. I would probably shoot it a lot more if the sights were bigger.

Some of them had a neat flare at the base of the grip similar to a S&W 39. It really enhanced the grip quite a bit.
a19608b483847949a9c81d04f35e994d.jpg Some also had a smaller, very elegant slide release. There doesn't seem to be any consistency as to when they used these features during this guns long run. A few even had a butt-ugly rib running the length of the slide.
FEG also made a DA P9, but it is really more of a S&W 59 clone than a HiPower. It uses different- 14rnd- mags too, not sure if they interchange with the Smith.
Both the SA and DA were marketed under the Mauser name at one point- some of these were nickel plated.

Sorry to be boring, but my answer has not, and I don't think it will, change in years. My go to gun is my 2 1/2" model 19. These are small and light enough to carry, yet feel like a real gun in my hand.
Ive said before, but I'll say it again, the snub-nosed 19 is one of the best looking, best balanced, most all-around practical revolvers ever!

Just go straight to the K6S. You won't regret it. My 3" has become my go to gun about 95% of the time now.

I probably will. I just bought my SP in September and my holster didn't come in until last week, but after carrying it for a weekend I don't notice the weight and bulk which was my main concern. It'll just be hard to justify that Kimber price tag over a Ruger I paid $400 for, all for essentially 1 more round.

I carry 1911s and S&W revolvers, except for a few exceptions, all of the handguns I own are 1911s and S&W revolvers. My primary concealed carry gun is an Alchemy Custom Springfield LW Champion, though I have a number of other 1911s that see carry time also. Secondary concealed carry is a Pinnacle customized S&W 360J .38spl/9mm convertible, I carry the little S&W when a 1911 won't fit. When I'm working around the farm I'm usually carrying another Pinnacle gun, a 3" RB .41mag S&W 28-2.

I try to become one with whatever platform I get a gun in. 1911s I know inside and out, quite literally, thanks to the US Army. Same goes for the M9, though I am not as fond of it. I have a love/hate relationship with Glocks. I shoot them very well, but dislike the looks and the way they carry. I like J and K frame Smiths, and D and I frame Colts, having owned several of each over the years. Any of these guns I am proficient with, so I tend to stay with those platforms.

General carry is usually a combat commander or a Dela elite. In the heat of summer sometimes it's a NAA minimag w/holster-grip. Out in the wild it's a 4" model 29.

If I am awake I'm carrying my LC9s. Never without it. It wears a Hogue grip sleeve so it fits my hand better.
That being said, I am currently looking at the 1911 platform.
