Standing Wolf

Ahem.
Like Standing Wolf here hasn't done something fooling to impress a girl in HIS youth
If so, I'd be willing to bet on two things:
1) It's a ripping good story.
2) Neither you nor I will ever hear it.
Well... Er... Ah... I guess I'm going to have to plead no contest.
I did plenty of silly things to impress the girls when I was in high school. Truth to tell, there wasn't a great deal else to do. I had jobs, sure, and school work, but none of that amounted to much of a challenge. The jobs were less boring than the school stuff. The school stuff was designed to keep average kids off the streets a few hours each evening.
Girls were a complete, total, absolute, fascinating mystery. I was clueless. I had no idea what to figure. A third of everything I said got laughs. Another third won pouts. Another third seemed to baffle them, or else get no reaction at all. By and bye, I realized the more I said, the more complicated situations I talked myself into. That didn't necessarily shut me up, but at least I had a vague idea what I was doing.
In due time, along came a girl who knew how to smile in just a certain way, and suddenly, even "Uhhh...?" was beyond my powers of articulation. It wasn't even a smile, but the hint of a smile.
In retrospect, I've got to figure she was smirking. I suspect she was thinking, "Well, no, not him, obviously, but he'll at least probably be good for entertainment."
I thought she was a goddess.
I can't tell you how glad I am I don't have to go through all that again!
