637xx is a war years gun....the us and p could be military proofs...could have considerable value to one of those crazy military shotgun collectors......

Serpico;
You can send me that riotgun and I will send you $200 and a thank you note...California doesnt want you to own THAT TYPE of firearm anyhow....

Hi, do you have any idea about the date of my riot gun?.
could be 1942/1943?.
Bye

1st post, this is a great site. =)
There is a model 37 on the used rack at the local shop. 12 ga. 2 3/4 with engraving on the side. The barrel says it's a mod. choke but the the barrel has been cut down to about 20" and had a bead put on it. I've been looking for a wingmaster or a 37 in this config. for awhile. Anyway my question, are there any issues with a cut down 37? It looks like they did a decent job. The shop wants 200. thoughts?

DECIMA, although your serial number (637xx) is in the serial number range of the WW2 Ithaca Military shotguns, there are very few, if any, in the 63,000 range shown on the Ithaca shipping records.

What's the barrel length of your shotgun?

And, can you post any photos of it including of the martial markings?

ISSUES removing barrel from Ithaca 37 18.5" King Ferry

Okay, so you're supposed to undo the barrel band, work the magazine tube nut/cap away from the barrel drop-down thingy, and then twist the barrel a quarter-turn and remove, right?

In this case, it ain't working. I can see inside the action where the barrel is hitting small protrusions (for lack of a better word) on the receiver end that make it so that it can't come loose and out, and I can't figure out for the life of me what I'm doing wrong.

Suggestions?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and the rubber pad on the buttstock seems to almost be glued down. Suggestions for removal on this one?

Hi, i was wondering the year of my Ithaca model 37 #971123.
I've used steel shot in it a few years ago quite abit. This year i've shot a box of steel #2. I've noticed the barrel gets quite hot after shooting it, so i figured i should google steel shot & ithaca & found out that it might not be very good for my barrel.

One more thing how come i'am having so much trouble hitting birds with steel. With lead i'am able to knock them down, if there in range, but with steel i have trouble at 15 yards:cuss:

Hello, just bought a model 37 today. Can anyone help me with the date of manufactor. its 3810204xx. thanks

Hey, I've been browsing around and this looks like a really cool site... I have a serial number request for you guys if thats ok, i just pulled this one out of the attic, my dad says its old and i was just curious how old! the serial number is 244551. Also he said it doesnt shoot due to the firing pin being broke, is that something that is hard to fix or something someone could do without a gun smith?

1949.....If you get a 37 break down chart and have a good set of screw drivers its not that hard....just a parts swap....but then it would most likely cost $80 or less to have a smith replace it along with giving the action a good inspect and clean...

thanks man, i'll look up a break down chart and see what it looks like, any idea how much the parts would cost? Also is there any kind of special 16 gauge round I have to shoot since its an old gun? I dont know really anything about it and dont wanna mess it up cause its been in the family for a really long time.

Ithaca vietnam era?

My Grandpa has a Ithaca 37 that was made sometime in the late 40s or early 50s I think. It has one small scratch on the stock and is otherwise in 100% condition all the way down the gun. We took it out to shoot skeet with it once and it's really nice. Not sure what the serial number is, but I look forward to owning it one day. I just hope it's not for a LONG LONG time.

I need to know an approximate date for the birth day of my Model 37. 16 gauge. Serial # 1349XX (stamped on barrel) in good/fair condition...stock cut down a little to fit a teenager. Will be selling for around $150....is that to low?

This is my first post to The High Road.

Does anyone know how an older Ithaca Model 37 12 Gauge will shoot if the barrel is cut from about 28 inches with a poly choke down to 18.5 inches?

Will the cut barrel let a gunsmith install a brass bead?

I am a bit intimidated about opening up the action. Any problem with just spraying in some Gun Scrubber and letting it drain out?

What about lubrication.

Thanks

bushmaster, How about this....I have a Ithaca barrel 20" original condition, with spring, tube and follower. $50 + shipping. Then you don't have to cut yours, and still have the legal short barrel. MG

BTW, That would be 12ga. MG
