I was taking to a co worker and he was telling me that he had signed up for a ccw class. I told him congrats and who was teaching it, i didn't know the name, and told him according to Montana law was all he needed was a hunter safety course to get it and that was a lot less. But training is always good right. He set the date to go talk to the Sheriff to get it done, the next available time...............March 10th 2:00 pm. THATS CRAZY! When I did mine (2 yrs ago) I picked my time. Now they are booked 3 months in advance, when will the madness end. Maybe I should book my re-up for 2010 when mine expires.

You can't renew it by mail and send in your fee? I believe that's how it is here in CO. If your status hasn't changed I don't see why you would have to go through the entire process again. But then again, when does government ever make sense?

When I got mine there was about a 6 week wait to get in to do the interview, paperwork, and fingerprint, but it only took about 3 weeks for the background check and receive my permit.

My Michigan 5 year concealed pistol license is going to expire in mid 2009. Can anyone tell me what kind of hoops can I expect to go thru to renew it?

Thanks
Mark

It may vary by county. I renewed mine in Aug/Sep in Oakland County. Had to go to the County clerk to pay my $105 and turn in the application and "passport quality" photo. Had to get fingerprinted again at the Sherif's office. They are now storing the electronic prints so won't have to be printed again next time.

When they finished my paper work at the Sherif's office they stamped me as pre-qualified for a temporary permit if my new one didn't arrive in the required timeframe.

New permit showed up in the mail 4 weeks later.

So the Hoops:
Go to Local Police Dept and get application
Get proper photo
Go to County Clerk and turn in app and pay $105
Go to Sherrif's office and get finger printed
Go home and wait.

I'd submit early to be sure you get it before current expiration.

I have a CCL in Multnomah County Oregon. I get notified by the Sheriff's department by mail when I can come in to renew BEFORE it expires. It's pretty simple really. You do have to go to the Sherrif's CCW unit and get a new mug shot, but I've never had to go through the entire process over again. As long is you renew before it lapses, you're fine...at least in my county.

Its just like renewing your drivers license for me here in Idaho, in fact its the same office, and same nice lady that takes my picture, money and hands me my new one and I'm out the door in less than 10 minutes. i have to think it will be just as easy in Montana where I live now. It only took about 20 minutes to get my Montana permit and it showed up in the mail soon after.

Ringer, thanks sounds like my first stop is the Sheriffs office.
I'm in St Joe County. Mine expires in June but I think I want to reapply asap.

I'm real happy my license is good another couple of years. The crowds should have subsided by that time.

Look at the good side of it. There is strength in numbers and the wait MUST mean that the numbers are increasing.

sigh...there is something reassuring about having a lifetime license, haha, no "hassle" of maintaining my rights.

the volume of permit requests is a good sign, just as long as all the new carriers (me included) are smart about it.

yes I am glad my wife and I got our lifetimes while they still offer them. We both had done the 4 yr for yrs so this just simplifies things, If they don't try to take em away.:barf:
