And I am not looking forward to it. Went into town today and guss what the worst of worst has already happened. Wal-Mart is closed. Say it ain't so. So had to go to Krogers and the food is already 2 times what it was last week on Sunday. The gas has rose to 4.19 a gallon and it is on the limited quanity side in the pump tanks. And to make matters worst it is mass black outs. The storms have blown countless trees and power lines down and that has made the majority of the side roads unusable. When the power will come back one is a good question. I am just lucky because I have power at the moment. All this reminds me of what happened during Katerina. It is getting scary out there. The maneger at the kroger store said that there is the possibility of a food shortage if people continue to buy things up like they are there won't be enough food/ supplies to go around. On a up side though Mc.D's is getting so much business that the police were called to direct the traffic flow. People have already taken to the streets in one area I drove through today. But that is just one group of people and I hope that it stays that way to. This has caused a little panick in people and myself as well. So alot of the people in the neighbor hood have locked the doors and armed themselfs. I am one of those myself but I am prying that I don't have ant problems throught the nest few days. Just wanted to let everyone know about this interesting sititution I am in now.

GOD BLESS

Western Kentucky was hit that hard by Ike? Report those price gougers that doesn't seem right at all. Take care and be carefull out there. Like the Rep from Texas said, all you need is food, water and lots of ammo. :D

Sigh.

Betcha a Frosty Cold Shiner Bock that things will be more or less back to normal by tomorrow afternoon.

Unless you are a producer for a major network news show, in which case you'll be looking for the next disaster to blow all out of proportion.

It finally stopped raining her in Mi, and it has been coming down since Thursday! There are areas flooded that have never seen standing water and the drainage ponds at the local Wally World is across the road.

Too bad this did not happen 5-6 weeks ago, then the corn and beans would have made it. It's has been since early July with no usable rain, just a occasional mist, what a way to break a drought!

I'm not going to say I told you so...
If you had been adequately prepared always,
your present situation would be less stressful.

It's not difficult to keep 50 gallons of gasoline in red cans,
rotate stock.
It's not difficult to keep a months supply of food, rotate stock.

I don't have a plan for the end of the world, but I'm covered for a couple months. I'd suggest everybody prepare for at least a couple weeks.

whats your definition of riot? when the power goes out folks go outside. i've noticed that a group of folks of color outside make white folks nervous.
what part of kentucky is this?

Meet your neighbors, and invite them over for a BBQ and a beverage...

And if you are so unprepared that you have neither BBQ nor beverage, then you really need to go do some reading on "how to be just minimally prepared."

+ 1 ..... I dont live close enough to the coast for hurricanes to really get to us but I have seen the aftermath first hand.

When Katrina rolled thru I was on the coast 3 days after it hit for work.
My sleeping quarters were in mobile and I worked from Mobile Al, all the way to New orleans for almost a month..
It took 8 hours for me to drive from Mobile to New Orleans for the first week or so, normally it takes about 3.
There was NO GAS, NO MCDONALDS, NO WALMART, NO ATMS anywhere down there that worked. The first week in some areas was utter confusion and chaos.

Most people, (and Im not talking about the ones whos homes were totally destroyed, but those that were just without power/utilities and miles inland from the hardest damage) did not have enough basic essentials stocked up to make it a week.

I hate to say it but with a weeks notice of imminent bad weather coming how hard is it to stock up some canned goods, bottle up some water, dry goods, toiletries, 5 or 6 jugs of gas, and a few bags of charcoal or firewood?

I saw firsthand how fragile and unprepared most people are. If we ever do get any catastrophic catastrophe itssssss gonna be a real mess for sure. :(

i catch some ribbing from folks(mostly over the geiger conter) but could convert to mormonism without having to increase my supply stash except perhaps toilet paper three girls use an unlimited amount

My basement is taking on water as we speak. Not sure if it is ike related rains all the way up here in MI but it still stucks. Got towels all over the floor.

Why do you have to pull out the race thing? It wasn't even brought up.

I'd suggest stocking up for at least two weeks. The gov't says 72hrs, but we all know it took a week for them to even get to New Orleans after Katrina, so I'd stock up for more. Up here I'm more concerned about storms in the winter than anything else, but it pays to stay stocked up all year round.

Everybody should take a lesson from the Mormons.

I was disgusted to see folks at the local Home Depot buying up all of the generators 10 at a time to obviously to sell for profit. This behavior screws the next guy that doesn't have cash in hand but needs one.

I consider price gouging and excessive last minute hoarding as bad as looting. One way the government could help is set a fix price on gasoline until everything is somewhat back to normal.

"Why do you have to pull out the race thing? It wasn't even brought up."

because i can't find anyreference to riot or unrest even on wnd or newsmax

and this "People have already taken to the streets in one area I drove through today. But that is just one group of people and I hope that it stays that way to. This has caused a little panick in people and myself as well."
seemed to speak of a "certain part of town " where folks had taken to the street. in my experience thats pc speak

Virginia's "state of emergency" laws include provisions about gouging. unfortunately you have to prove it after the fact which doesn't help DURING the emergency.

Ike slammed Michigan

Can you believe IKE reached into Michigan? Torrential rains have flooded the Saint Joseph River! 6 1/2" of rain in Benton Harbor in one day. I thought we were safe from Hurricanes way up here! My 12 foot wide back yard creek is now a 120 foot wide river. This is the most water I've seen in twenty years. Floods are serious entities, and even Chicago, Illinois suffered from this IKE! cliffy

Ike is supposed to be up in Southern Canada before it's all over. This keeps up and tinfoil hats will in style. People are waking up. If we had an Aqua duct system like in ancient times, it would distribute it evenly all over the nation. This system is broken, as Nero fiddles.
Google weather modification. Pretty soon we'll be bowing down to Al Gore.

Would someone please quit leaning up against the weather joy stick?

A couple of hours ago, it was blowing harder than an Adam Sandler movie. Nice and quiet now. Power was out just north of here in Lakewood. Don't know if it's back on or not.

Ho-kay.

When we got to the Weather Modification Conspiracy and the criminal lack of aqueducts, I think we jumped the shark on this one.

For the record, the ancient Romans lived in Italy, where they don't get hurricanes, as far as I know, because the Mediterranean Sea is not big enough to breed one. Their aqueducts were water pipelines to bring in water for use; they were not storm drains used to flow water out of cities during times of flood. Sheesh.

Also, if it's aqueducts you want, be relieved; the water pipelines, canals and aqueducts in this country put the Roman ones to shame. The Roman ones were only as impressive as they were because they were built without things like stainless steel and electrical welding.
