I'm not sure how long these have been available but I'm thinking about buying one. I know, for the price lots of people would rather have an original USGI but I already have one. These seem to be the best of the new ones and they claim all parts are interchangable with USGI parts. There are only a few places to buy an original and be 100% sure of getting a rifle with some life left in the barrel and those are all over 1K now. I just want a new one.

Anybody have one of these and what is your opinion if you do?

The M1 carbine is such a fantastic weaponapotamus!

I wish a company like Ruger would introduce there own version, kind of like how they are doing 1911s.

I just have to see quite a bit of good press (and not from the gun rags) on these no-name outfits before I would ever consider laying down the ol' chedda!

James River has been active in WWII area firearms for some time, I have read forum responses that suggest some of the newly made Rockola receivers are seriously out of spec. I have no factual data so take it any way you wish, I would think a fully assembled rifle has been proof and function tested.

I often look at the James River Web Page but after looking at all the choices on the internet, gun brokers ect I decided to purchase a new paratrooper carbine from Auto Ordnance and not worry about how that 70 year old rifle was stored or pieced together. If I were more versed in that type of rifle I might have decided differently but I wanted a safe shooter. I have many vintage rifles so please don't take offense but in this case I decided to go with a new build. Maybe if those rifles from Korea had been released I would have made a different choice. The Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine looks great, shoots great, and while it probably wont appreciate, I don't sell guns, I hoard them. My beneficiaries can determine what to do with them, meanwhile lets go shooting!

My hat is off to anyone who makes an m1 carbine. I just wish it was cheaper. I need a carbine receiver to go along with a bucket of parts I have, but 350 for a receiver is steep steep steep.

Greyling, I will be off to E Texas to shoot hogs once I have a new knee stuffed in my leg. My buddy in Canton uses an AR I built with night vision on top. I will give him a Winchester M1 carbine with the condition he shoots a hog with it on my next visit. He has just under 400 hogs to his credit now. I have............2.

Mike, i do not remember the forum as it was several months ago but there was quite a discussion about cost vs quality. I guess one could contact the manufacturer for additional info.
