1. Remove magazine.

2. Make sure the chamber is empty.

3. Lay the gun on a hard flat surface.

4. Smash repeatedly with hammer.

5. Dispose of properly.

Just kidding! :D

Being new, and asking a question like that here, you're sure to catch more flak from other members as they come along. Jennings isn't exactly the most well-built, quality firearm, but it's better than nothing, I guess.

I'm not really familiar with the J22, but I'd wager that it's built like its other "bargain" counterparts like Lorcin, Bryco and Raven/Phoenix. I've owned one or two of those over the years. Notice I said "owned" - not "shot".

Make sure the gun is unloaded - magazine AND chamber. There should be a round "button" that fits flush in the back of the slide. Push it in with a pencil's eraser or something similar. While pushing, pull up on the back of the slide and ease it forward. Be careful not to lose any springs.

its not my only gun, i got it used for $30 and i took it to the range friday and it worked better than my expectations, one jam in about 75 rounds

If I'm not mistaken, you push the back of the slide (around the firing pin) in, while pulling the slide back, and the slide lifts off, or lifts up and slides off the front. I cant remember for sure. I've only took one apart. Most of the others did the work for me and basicly fell apart.

edit: I guess I should have read his second reply (although the first one was funny). It coulda saved me some typing...

yeah that worked, but parts flew across the room and dirtied the new white couch

This isn't really Rocket Science, Its a lot easier than that. You have already been advised as to the correct procedure and if you keep it oiled it'll work better than you might think. I don't love 'em but I can get them to work pretty well.

Hey, I got one of those guns.....worked great for years.....bought new for $60, then it started to double....kind of neat, jamed on the third shot, cleaned it out good, and stopped doing it....
I will sell you mine for $30....I was waiting for a local buyback offer, but could use the money now....

one jam in about 75 rounds

Wow! it's past it's life expectancy. :D i'd spend the $30 on ammo for a different gun before I wasted it on one of those - well unless I needed a cute little paperweight. :p

Only those who have reached Pistolero Nirvana may own a Jennings. :D I bought one brand new in 1985 for $56. I STILL HAVE IT. I even have it in its own little padded case, it's so cute. It was jamming on me until I removed the extractor and sharpened the hook a bit, and the fool thing actually started to work pretty decent!

I figure since it's an early model, it's sure to increase in value, so I'm holding on to it until it's worth at least as much as a new Kimber, then I'll trade even up.

anyone know how to feild strip j22?

They usually do that all by themselves after about 12 or 13 rounds :D

Okay, sorry. Everybody else was havin' their fun so I had to take my turn.

I was shooting once with my sister-in-law who's father had given her a J22. We were firing side-by-side about six feet away from each other. I'll never forget that after the fourth or fifth shot I saw the slide pop right off the gun and go flying out onto the range floor. The bewildered look on her face as she examined the field-stripped remnants in her hand was priceless. Thankfully she wasn't hurt.

i need parts for a j 22

i need firing pin and spring also lock button, and front recoil spring the one that slides over the barrel, and a 2nd magazine would come in handy, i keep mine in my tackel box when i go fishing and it has come in handy a few times. give me a good deal and i'll even pay postage. thank you and greg532mi if you want to really sell yours i have $30.00 but you'll need to take it all a part before shipping.

J-22

I have had no problems with mine.
I spray Stinger ammo with a dry silicone spray and all is well.
2,000 shots and no jams!

I have had a J22 for years.
My wife kept it in her office til she got a .38.
My sister carried it fishing on the river.
I carried in the front pocket of my field jacket on the mountain.
Once a year, I take the four magazines, fire the ammo, clean the gun
and reload the magazines with fresh ammo.
As long as I use CCI Stinger, it functions 100%.
It also does well with Aguila SSS 60 grain bullet.
I dont expect to shoot it a thousand rounds a year and last twenty+ years like my Ruger MarkII.
For backup or when the alternative would be no gun, it serves well.
Some J22s are crap especially ones that have been abused by previous owners, but there are good serviceable J22s out there.

I admit I actually have one of these, tucked away somewhere. Purchased for $50 back in 1991, shot very little. Bright chrome-plated, too.

It worked a lot better after I put the mags in a vise and pushed the feed lips together slightly. Prior to that it FTF'd a lot with the rounds lifting too far out of the mags during feeding. I only bought the thing because it was so cheap and sooooo cute. Now I'm stuck with something I don't have a use for and too cheap to be worth trying to sell.

I am glad to know that it is not your only gun because you are going to need a Bowie knife for back up .Mine jam only every 3rd rounds on decent magazine, and zero jam on perfect magazine and about every other round on bad magazine , the problem is I don't know which magazine is decent, perfect or bad because they are look the same and I only have 5 of them and I don't know why I need spare magazine for it .I bought it because I saw Taxi driver and I want to make the similar pistol that Travis (or Robert DeNiero ) has hidden inside the sleeve of his jacket ,I even tried to use old drawer rail from broken wooden file cabinet to make that device ,It did not work out and I am glad because I might have shot myself tried to get the Jenning out of the sleeve.

The dissemble procedure of Jenning J22 is as follow .First you remove the magazine and rack the slide back several time and visually inspect the chamber to make sure that it is empty and also use your finger to check if it is actually empty. Second use round object like chopstick or Barbie doll stand with out the base to press the back of slide at the striker location ,this is a tricky part because you have to press the thing back while lifting the slide upward to disengage the slide from the frame .Third separate the slide from the frame .I think the slide contain spring firing pin with the tip that act as load chamber indicator and the round part that connect the slide with the frame. Numeric gun parts still have some part left the last time I check and Cheaper than dirt offers spare magazine for it but all of them that I order are jam .I paid $70 for mine at the pawn shop and since they are no longer make I expect my Jenning value to climb up very soon .The last two neon pink Jenning I saw at gun shop has asking price of $120 and they were sold out pretty fast too.

possenti: lol, that is a good one. In all honesty, I soldguns for a living and the J22 if not the worse gun I ever sold it ranked at least #2. Practically every J22 I sold had to go back at least once. Jennings always took care of them, but not sure wha tthe owner did after that,as I am sure the second gun was also a POS. I read somewhere though where Jenning cranked out over 2 million of those little puppies. I think back then we sold them for $69.95, sold like hotcakes..

I got one of the nickle-plated, wood grip J22's. We call it the "pimp gun". After a little fluff 'n buff and a good lube job it is actually fairly reliable, except the safety is not what I would call safe. It usually doesn't jam.

Nevertheless it is the BUG-BUG. At best.

Among my few dozen hand guns, I own three J-22's; a first model Jennings with the horizontal safety, and a couple of Bryco/Jennings with the vertical safety. I shoot them regularly. They are just plain fun at the range with Mini-Mags or in the basement with hand cycled Colibri. All of mine are very reliable functioning with CCI Mini-Mags. Just keep them clean & lubed and make sure the magazine isn't buggered-up.
