As in joke. :D

I see

So you would not dispute what anyone at S&W would say about the md19 Classic?

I would most likely dispute pretty much what EVERYONE at S&W would say about the new 19 as being "better", "stronger", or "spiffier" than a new N-Frame or an older 19 K-Frame.....

I've given you my expectations of what the maker will tell you.
This is wandering a bit.
If you believe Miculek, buy the gun.
If you like the gun independently, buy it.
If you don't, don't.

The video was fun to watch.
The gun is there if you want it.

Over & out.

Jerry is one of the nicest gentlemen you will ever have the pleasure to meet. He is being paid to do advertisements for S&W. What ever he may truly think about current S&W quality you will never see or hear on the internet or on Youtube or in a magazine. He is working off of a script written by ad people. Just remember that and don't put too much into the advertisement. It's just a commercial - no more. I worked on S&W revolvers from the 80s up to about 1996 and there is no way I will ever believe the current ones are as good or better than the old ones no matter who gets paid to tell me that. The old ones were built without CAD/CAM machining - they were hand fitted by guys who are in nursing homes now but took great pride in their work. In those days S&W worried MUCH more about quality than they did about how many units they could produce in a day, a month or a year. Sadly those days are long gone in the gun industry. I watched it happen to Colt and Remington and Winchester too. It is what it is. Bean counters run everything now and they only care about one thing - and it's not quality. The old days are never coming back.

It all depends on what better means.

It's better when a company can make a product in the US that can be sold at a price people are willing to pay and that will allow the maker a profit.

It's better when a product can be made that will perform at an acceptable uniform level without requiring hand fitting and tuning.

It's better when a product can be made that meets legal requirements and reduces legal attempts to prohibit its production.

Terms like "Better" really have no meaning unless fully qualified. The revolvers Smith & Wesson was making even just a half century ago really involved lots of individual hand tuning by experienced workers. Those workers are simply not there today and cannot be made available overnight; and today there is less and less of the older apprentice training system to create their replacements.

So is it "Better" to have a US based manufacturer who uses the technology and tools that are available today to produce objects that do function as expected and can be manufactured to sell at a price people will accept and still produce a profit for the company?

"It all depends on what better means". Ahhh, the old Bill Clinton defense. Yup, I remember that well. So all of the people who buy a new S&W and take it out of the box and it has a canted barrel ( that would be an "acceptable uniform level") and they send it back 3 times and it comes back still canted and they are told by S&W "that's the best we can do" is "acceptable" to you? Is that what you are saying?

Pat,
I would expect them to say exactly what they did say, but I would not have wasted my time in asking, so my expectations are irrelevant.

What did YOU expect when you asked?
Why did YOU bother?

That's their basic canned response & answers exactly nothing.
But- at least you did make Richard happy to have "served" you.
Denis

So, if your expectations are irrelevant and I am satisfied with the answer that these revolvers are safe with SAAMI spec’d loads then why...you know what? Never mind. This would go no where fast.

Thanks for taking the time.

Pat, These guys are "seasoned veterans" in the revolver world. You won't be convincing them anytime soon that the 21st century is here and we aren't going back to the 60s or 70s or whenever the glorious days of their youth happened. It's best to just listen to them and occasionally pat them on the back and thank them for telling their stories. This is probably what they did for the seasoned veterans that were obsessed with the old days when they were younger.

I had a 64-2 with a BADLY canted barrel. Even in the "good ol days" they didn't make them like the "good ol days". They've always turned out a lemon or two, to think otherwise is like wearing rose colored glasses.

Don't think you can find where I said any of that but if creating strawmen makes you happy, then build them strawmen.

I'm seriously considering buying a 19 for EDC. There's one at a gun shop 1 hour drive from where I am and I can check it out in person before I buy it. The main alternatives I'm considering is a 686+ or just sticking with a 640 that had been my EDC that S&W should be returning to me by end of this week (hopefully with the factory defect fixed). I don't really find the stainless guns a pleasing finish, but they really are carefree.
