All right, I admit it. It's been a couple of weeks now, and I am still jonesing for a gun that belongs to a friend of mine. She brought it up to the range to show it off, and now I just can't get it out of my mind ...

Only five of these guns have been made, or will be made, so it's not as though I could save up and get one myself. Each of the few that were made were also personalized for the buyers, so if I did manage to talk someone into selling one, I'd have to change my name to match the engraving. So the gun really is unobtainable.

It's also impractical. It won't fit in any existing holsters, and a speed reload would be utterly out of the question. It uses expensive ammunition, 10mm, ideally Silverpoints. It's too pretty to risk scratching up by toting it around.

But I want it anyway.

Anyone else ever get an impossible-to-satisfy hankering for an impractical gun?

Linky no worky.

We all want things we can't have.
As far as guns, I want a BAR, MG34, Thompson 1928, Barrett M82A1, etc.

I'll probably never get any of those, but I can dream. I'm pretty happy about the guns I DO have. ;)

An impractical gun? Definitely. A guy at a local show had real Winchester 44-40 saddle ring carbines cut down into the "Mare's Leg" pistols as seen carried by Zoe on Firefly, and also by Steve McQueen in an old movie.

Impractical as anything, but definitely cool, especially with the leg-strap holster.

#2 on the list would be the expensive, complicated, but Blade Runner-esque Mateba.

I've got an impossible-to-satisfy hankering for an impractical gun. Heck, I've got an impossible-to-satisfy hankering for a practical gun.

Full time college student + living at home on break with anti- mother = no gun for me. :(

pax, professional Hunters stick with .45. :p

And with your deciding vote, Walrus it is. (inside joke)

Correia ~

Whadda ya expect? I told you it was impractical... ;)

As to the first post, get the solid silver bullets from bulletforge (and yes, they can be delivered as components to let you reload yourself), and you'd be all set for multiple supernatural threats.
If you really wanted to go for genre, you'd have to have custom grips made from the wood of a broken old crucifix from a ruined Transylvanian church. ;)

As for vampires...keep it lubed with garlic oil, maybe? :D

(BTW, would those wooden-bullet training rounds some European countries used count as a stake?)

That's an awesome looking piece! Like you said though, reloading looks to be a problem. Have to change 'Tap, Rack, Bang' to 'Tap, Scream, Cuss.'
Impractical guns are cool to have just because you want it. When an anti says "why do you need (insert firearm their bane)" you can say "You think THAT'S impractical? Check out this sweetie!" haha.
Someone should produce a line of THR edition official SHTF zombie guns.

Impractical?

Sure. As I've said in the past, I passed up an opportunity to purchase a Street Sweeper in .45-70; looked at it for a long time and moved off. I regret that decision to this day. No real value, as far as I'm concerned, but the cool factor still echoes in my mind for some reason.

Well a 44 automag isn't quite as impractical as a BAR.

Right? Even though I'd have to manufacture my own ammunition.

Mmmm... Do you have some more pictures of that? I'm curious about the wording on the bottom and, well, ALL of it!

Mmmmm.....

Amish Bill ~

It's a Kase Reeder custom, on a Dan Wesson frame. Named "Vampyre Slayer." Written up in SWAT magazine last January, if you have an old issue lying around. I don't have any more photos on hand, but I stole those from Reeder's site and I think there were a few more there. Wish I'd taken a few pics when the gun was up here.

Dang, this isn't helping my jones at all ... :p

you should know that anything can be dupilicated maybe even in a more obtainable caliber if you are willing to spend the $$$$$$.:D

Well, these fellahs can get you the case for $75.

Plus, they make cool grips. Tossing some really snazzy grips onto your current 1911 and putting it in a coffin case will accomplish just about the same thing.

Jones for an impractical gun?

Are you kidding? ABSOLUTELY!

Remember the COP 357 four barrel pistol that Leon used in the beginning of Bladerunner to blow Holden away?
leon-firing.jpg

Well after I found out it was an actual firearm... oh baby. Had to have one.
Finally picked one up a few years back. Heavy. Horrible trigger/striker action. Produced patterns.. not groups.

And yet... it's way too cool for me to ever part with.

Now that's cool.
Cool like Monica Belluci in a rubber dress in the Matrix with a COP 357 coooool.

And about as practical as said rubber dress.

Pax...

The spikes are available from Tandy Leather (www.tandyleather.com). They are dog collar spikes, very popular with the Goth sub-culture for bracelets. They seem to serve no real purpose on this pistol, but I suppose tastes do vary... I think I would prefer a coordinated fixed blade knife or perhaps fighting axe. (America - What a country!)

The engraving seems to be - uh - tentative. Check in your local area for engravers and see what it would cost to engrave your name and/or perhaps a family motto or battle slogan or other bon mot on the slide or frame.

A set of fancy grips - to your liking - and you would a one of a kind pistol. Why bother sharing with four others? If this is too practical, have it gold or silver plated.

pax,
I think you need a serious break from editing Larry's works. :D

Well...umm, Yes I was expeciting a 1911-ish platform. Honest I expected a STI in Lavender & Pink with Tilde's :)

Not, not impractical at all. Five boys, all them diapers, all them lizards in blue jeans , loose in the house, the car ...being found in the washing machine and toaster..., minivans going "kaput" with 5 boys...Sounds like a practical "want" to me. :) Being a boy , perhaps I understand this better...:p

Lesser money, still personal, and unique. Still the ammo is pricey. Caspsian Frame and Slide, Caspian parts, 9x23. Not the race gun version [although nice] just the Commander size with nice touches.

STHP ammo is factory, for the werewolves...
Still the ballistics are great on a 9x23.

Another one of them things to shoot that is more fun than finding a $20 bill in a jacket pocket you forgot about.

Yep, I know folks that CCW these Capsian 9x23's including ladies.

I still predict someday, we are going to see you with a STI in 9mm.
