After much consideration I've decided to hold off on the Judge purchase for now. I did get a good deal on a Taurus 7 shot .357 mag w/2in barrel..
Thanks for all the info / brothers. ST...

Enjoy your new Taurus, Steel Talon. Sounds like an awesome gun!

Like others, I have not yet bought a .410 revolver. I've been very tempted by the low prices I've seen on Public Defenders, recently, though. :) So, who knows?

Every test I've read says a 410/45 Colt revolver does nothing well.

With 410, the range is very short.

With 45 Colt, the accuracy is terrible & the POA/POI is way off even up close. Also, due to the rifling, the velocity with 45 Colt is lower than with a dedicated 45 Colt revolver.

Those unwilling to accept compromises between the alternate ammunition would do well to select another gun. My Judge shoots better than I do.

Mine shoots a little low with .45 Colt, but accuracy is there. When I get some time I'll go out and do a test. I'll get the results in this thread eventually.

Guys: My Wife bought me a Bright SS Judge with a 4 inch barrel several years ago for Xmas. I was sure surprised to say the least. For I would have probably never bought one my self. But I have had a lot of fun with my Old Judge, and really I have shot it quite a bit. And any time I have taken my Judge out to a shooting range there has been a line of Men, Women, and Kids that want to shoot the darn thing. And I know the line will be there till all the ammo I brought out, has been shot up, because the darn thing is just fun to shoot. So my Judge is not for sale, for I have just had to much fun with it.

Shooting .45 Colt at steel plates I'm almost as accurate with my Governor as I am with my Ruger Blackhawk. That might not say much about my shooting but the Governor is plenty accurate for me.

It is what it is. I bought one for goofing around with. It has given me no problems. The trigger is a bit stiff. I haven't shot much 45colt out of it, but it seems to shoot to POA pretty well at seven yards. It is fun to blow up old cans and veggies and so forth out at my BiL's place out in the country. I did not buy it for SD. However, as far as I can predict from shooting it, 3" magnum 00 buckshot at close range, say ten feet away, would be effective.

IMHO, the salespeople who tout it as the greatest SD handgun ever and the critics who say it is useless are equally inaccurate.

Finally a rational well rounded opinion.

I personally wouldn't mind owning a 6 inch barrel stainless steel judge for fun.

In fact I would love to.

I would pass on using a snub nose barrel for .410 shot, although it would be loads of fun to blast out of a snub, the extra 4 inches of barrel would make for a much better gun in my opinion.

Oops my deepest apologies I am not a judge owner.
