I've had a LOT of D cells leak, doesn't matter what brand, they just seem to leak if you don't use them, and leak if you do. I had a really nice LED lantern that I bought a few years back and I got a set of 4 Duracells out just as they started to leak. I bought some Fuji's and put them in, and about 6 weeks later, the lantern was trashed. Into the trash it went. Too bad, it had a really pleasant soft white light that was very nice to use if the power went off. The one I have now has Energizers in it, and I check it weekly.

I don't remember D cells leaking like this back when alkalines were a pretty new thing.
