I just finnished part two of my concealed carry class. Part one was on sunday when we did the 'classroom portion'. THe instructor ent over guin saftey, when it is legal/apropriate to pull/use your ccw, etc. He told a lot of annecdotes about what not to do and how he figured it out. and then we shot 20 "diagnostic" rounds through a target.

Part two consisted of a take home "test" which was again mostly diagnostic so that the instructor knew where you would need help. After finishing the "test" you were supposed to come to the range on your own time adn talk with the instructor then he would look at your test and targets and give you some one on one tips and siggestions. I spent an hour at the range today and put 145 rounds through a S&W k-frame revolver that I borrowed from a friend since I dont have my own handgun yet (25 days from now that will be a different story...but who's counting?:D )

Here is my 20 shot 'diagnostic' from sunday:

and here are the last 12 shots from today:

Both were done at 21 feet. :D

The instructor is going to hold hte paperwork untill my birthday then all I have to do is go pick it up. I hatta say...an houra t the range when you are the only shooter...that is alot of fun.

Dave is really a good coach, huh? By the way, your friends gun is insulted by being called a K frame! You sould apologize and offer some Hoppes #9 to help heal his injured feelings.

David

I'm sorry. I thought that was what it is...I already gave it a good cleaning with hopps#9 and patches and a nice soft flannel cloth. What is it?

Model 27 (N frame, .357 Magnum)

They aren't really better than a k frame, but they have egos. :D

David

Glad to see that you went and did it......and Dave is a pretty good coach. I still go there a bit and go through some of his drill - especially holster drills, you can never get enough of that. Nice group, and looking forward to having a lady packin' heat in town. :)

good job, when you get your carry pistol practice and practice and practice some more until you are punchin holes in the black all day long, and practice with loads that you will be carring along with some fmj, this is so you will know what they are gonna do and you can see the difference, and be ready if the time ever comes that you need to use it. great job keep it up!

Probably because many "green" shooters tend to push their groups to the left (ie away from the strong hand) of the black. If I let myself slack, I'll string shots out left and down from POA. That's a pretty good indication of jerking the trigger.

Nice shootin' MedGrl.

I am not. Why do you ask?
So, given that she's not a leftie, how does one explain that first group?

(I'm asking to learn here, not being rhetorical or flippant.)

Nem

The first group is easy to explain. Modest trigger control and a gun that is two sizes to big.

From difficulty keeping a cylinder's worth on the target backer to 3" group in half a dozen trips to the range is great progress.

David

Your choice of the K-frame was excellent. I always start my "students" out on revolvers without exception. Crawl...walk...run...in that order; and a suprising number actually stick with a revolver instead of going to an automatic.

Lancer, welcome to THR.

You've come to one of the best forums on the Internet.

Newbies buy the next rnds. {Standard joke here abouts.}

I'll take a Blue Moon wheat ale, and a box of {choose one} 12 ga 00, .38 spl or 9 mm JHP.

Nem

Thanks Nem. Came here by way of Halffast's "Lights Out" novel. Love the forum and plan to stay if ya'll will have me.

And all you'll get from me is Jonney Walker Black, .44 Mags, .45 ACPs, 3" Mag Slugs, and .30-06s! Hope I fit in...:D

Where about's in the NW you from?

Dang it, dude. You're trying to make me buy more guns!

Where about's in the NW you from?
Roughly
Latitude: 44.0344706488
Longitude: -123.0435295362

Yeah, I 'spect you'll fit in here. ;)

MedGrl is learning in leaps and bounds, but she hasn't got close to the point where she pulls the trigger straight through every time. Dave worked with her a bit and it shows.

David

Corrected coordinates

Thanks to new member Lancer for pointing out my error re coordinates.

My current coords are near:

Latitude: 44.06 N, Longitude: 123.11 W.

But who can say where i'll be tomorrow,
let alone the next day?

:D
