Just looked at the Taurus website, new stuff

At least new since the last time I looked. I called about the extended mags for the 740 slim, They have no clue when they will be available, I asked about the 9 also,figured some of you had them, same answer. But on their website, there are a passle of guns I haven't seen, like a 22 mag revolver, a Hi-cap version of the slim, in 2 or 3 calibers, and that 28 Gauge monster. May want to take a look at the Taurus website, just to see what they have come up with.
I am not a lover, but never have had problems with their guns yet.
I may have waited for the hi cap version of the 40 if I knew about it, also if I remember very light. The one I have is 19ozs, but only takes 6+1. Oh yea there is a 40 caliber snub revolver on there also. Nice to see a little innovation. Even if it isn't perfect, now someone else will make one. Same with their carbine in a few flavors with the red dot.

My only problem with Taurus is they like to use customers for beta testing. Also dealing with Customer Service is a real pain irregardless of the lifetime warranty.
We have owned a couple of Taurus guns, one good and one not so good.

You pretty much summarized my thoughts about Taurus and Kel Tec right there. Great little innovative companies whose products never failed to disappoint me. IMO they exist to fill a niche, which is providing guns for people who don't shoot often and can't afford anything better, and putting ideas out there for other companies to effectively put into practice.

This is an opinion formed on the ownership of two Taurus firearms and three by Kel Tec. I still really enjoy looking at their new stuff, and hope someone else will manufacture a quality version of the Circuit Judge in .454 or .460.

Its the 405 in 40 S&W, it took me 20 minutes to find it again. The top is a little 44 mag, under the blk one is the 40, http://www.taurususa.com/2011newcatalog/?catalog_page=11, there are a hundred pages to their E-catalog. Even a 5mm revolver, which I have no idea why that exhists. Take a look at some of these crazy contraptions.

As I understand it, Charter Arms actually invented and patented such a system a couple of years ago but have been so snowed under by the Obama panic that they have not put it into production yet. Maybe they sold Taurus rights to the pattent?

Do you feel the 40 cal, in that 29 oz package is a good choice, vs the 44, on that same page? They are offering some very lightweight guns for calibers like the 454, district attorney, and the like. I can't see a 2 or 3 inch revolver in the 20 oz catagory, as being anything but a gimmick. the 40 at least is 29 ozs. But some of these guns are just too light IMO, for any accurate follow up shots. Especially for a woman or a small framed male. That 22 revolver seems like something I would buy. It is on utube, if you do a "utube," search, and the cylinder comes out with the press of 2 buttons, you can shoot either 22mag or 22 LR,http://www.taurususa.com/2011newcatalog/?catalog_page=7, . Very convienient as long as the price is where it should be. Looks to be a 6 inch barrell, 55 ozs. I was looking at the catalog last week. The 638 pro compact caught my eye.

The new DT Hybrid pistols are interesting. I don't really get the point of a polymer/steel hybrid though. It makes even less sense when you consider there is very little weight savings or strength gain. The size and capacity is interesting though. At 6.3" long with a 3.2" barrel and 24ozs it might be a good carry piece.

The carbine does kinda look fun. 34+1 in 9mm, next page shows .40 cal as only 15+1, didn't see specs on .45acp version. Also see the 28gauge judge, whats the status on that with the BATFE? I thought it got confiscated at the shot show.

Taurus is probably the most inventive and creative gun company out there.
They keep coming up with such innovative stuff.
There's no mistaking the .45 Colt/410 bore revolver has been a huge success.

I have several Taurus guns. All work perfectly. My PT-1911 is one of my favorites and my EDC.

I kind of like that carbine myself. I would love to see it dressed up with laser, surfire, and red dot. It actually may be affordable. Maybe a little cameo on it also. Perfect all around weapon for HD distance. 30+ rounds with a dot and a light would pretty much do the trick. I never could put that on a handgun, as It would make carrying it impossible.

Taurus is notorious for announcing products and then never building them. I remember 2-3 years at SHOT they announced a revolver that would fire .38spc, .357mag and 9mm. They never produced it.

Bubba, that is one of the things that annoys me about Taurus. However, the carbine is in production and used elsewhere around the world. That is my understanding. Also the polymer hybrid .38spl is allready available. So the .357 shouldn't be too far behind. The 638 Pro Compact is allready available. So are the new polymer .22s. The .22 conversion for the 800 series is out as well. The 9 shot 5mm is out now as well. The G2 versions of the Slim should be easy to bring on line. This catalog seems to be filled with stuff in production or easy to put in to production.

I think the big maybes in this one are the 28 gauge pistol and the .40 S&W revolver. The DT Integral might be a bit of an issue. They have never made a gun with interchangable palm swells to my knowledge. So, getting the manufacturing up and running on the parts might be an issue.

Don't forget all of this stuff has to pass government aproval for importation. So, there is no telling how many products Taurus did make and the government turned away.

ETA:
I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a Taurus PCR in .40S&W. A 180gr Federal HST, or Hornady TAP CQ, out of a 16" barrel should make for a good home defense choice. A 9mm version firing 147gr ammo should be an easy to control alternative for defense and plinking.

I heard the 28guage is a no go due to "Not having a sporting application"

even 12guage shotguns are considered "Destructive devices" but since they have a "Sporting Purpose" they are allowed to be sold.
