if i could only have one it would be a sa xd and since i have 2 then i would take the service model. and since i have .40 models and plenty of ammo i would go that route.

Why not Colt does as well as Ruger and SW when they also have the revolver market in their favor. I could also say the same about the Taurus, but they somebody might say ha ha ah ha like once before.

Firepower

you are probably not gonna like my answer to your question. Here it is anyway. Practically every gun, or at least type of gun, that Colt makes or has made someone else is making cheaper and, yes in many cases, better. Uberti and a couple others are making the Single action army for about a third of the price of a real Colt. Everybody and his brother is making 1911's and if I were to buy one it would be a Springfield or Taurus. By many peoples estimation there are several companies out there making them better like Springfield and Kimber. Lets not forget about Ar-15's. Again, everbody is making them, most for a whole lot less money. The last time I looked Bushmaster was supplying the the guns were taking the top spots at Camp perry. As for the Double action revolver market, I don't know what they are currently making. I will say that while some of their old offerings like the python and the detective special 2nd issue werevery nice guns, the Smiths and Ruger were were always more rugged and more affordable. I do wish that I had hung on to my detective special though. It was a realy nice gun.:banghead:

I'm living this (one handgun, law), and I intend to buy a 1911. Not decided on manufacturer though, although the best would be Caspian parts built by a master gunsmith. Caspian isn't in your poll.

Glock ahead even when it only makes pistols. Seems like people really like it!

CZ223: Colt Detective Spl. is a great revolver. Well I did like you answer. This is all THR is about- exchange of ideas and thoughts.

Some people may not admitt this, but I do that I learn a lot from you fellow members. This is specailly true because where I live people do have lots of guns but they dont know much about the history of them, ballistic analysis and other information that I find very useful.

My only regret is that I should have paid some attention to guns while I was living in the US since I could have tried anything at the range, and learn from other folks. The problem here in Pakistan is that handguns are VERY expensive, and the process to have a license for each gun is cumbersome. For example a Glock here costs about 6000$ and Taurus about 1000$. I am searching for Desert Eagle but only two have beeen located since they are made in Isreal, and Pakistan has no realtion with it. So they are basically illegal. The dealer is asking 10000$ for it and yet he does not have any bullets for it since it take 50AE!!! And I can not locate 50AE bullets anywhere in Pakistan. The way the dealer sell IMI pistols is by removing IMI from it and engraving USA on it instead!

Another vote for Ruger...

4" SS Ruger GP100 in .357 magnum.
In my opinion it is the best revolver chambered in my favorite cartridge in the world.

My second choice would be a 4" SS Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum
In my opinion, the best .44 magnum in the market. The .44 magnum is my second favorite cartridge. .44 magnum might actually be a better all around cartridge than .357 magnum, but it is geared more towards the higher power levels, which I probably wouldn't use that much. If I wasn't married, this would definitely be the gun. I wouldn't want my wife to have to shoot a gun that would clearly be too big for her if she ever needed it. The GP100 is a better fit for her. That is why I'd go with the GP100 over the Redhawk.

My third choice would be a Sig p250.
I could change between 9mm, .357 sig, 40 S&W, and .45 acp in the same serial numbered gun. I could also switch between sub compact, compact, and full-sized grips, barrels and slides. Again, the subcompact, compact, and full-sized barrels will be offered in 9mm, .357sig, 40 S&W, and .45 acp. If my wife wanted to shoot it, I could even get her some of the thin grips in subcompact, compact, and full-size. I could even switch between two triggers: short and long. I'm surprized that the autoloader crowd isn't voting for the p250. The p250 literally is the most flexible, modular gun ever made. It truly is the all in one defense gun. It would be my first choice, but I don't think that I could cure my revolver fetish. The other reason that I didn't choose it is that none of the cartridges that the p250 can be fitted with are any good in hunting. They would all be pretty lousy choices.

1) There is no .22 conversion kit available
2) They want the flexibility of being able to run really light and really heavy loads without changing springs.
3) They don't want to always have to chase brass around for reloading
4) They are worried that, in a world of false shortages, they may not be able to buy enough ammo so they don't like the short lifespan brass has when fed through an autoloader.
5) Unknown long-term reliability.
All good reasons to get a CZ PO1 with Kadet Kit 22lr conversion, covers everything listed above. Load light or heavy, works well, ( I do it with my PO1), Ejection is pretty close to me, no chasing all over creation, but like any semi-auto, still have to go a few feet, not like a wheelie! And I can get many many loads through 9mm brass in my PO1. :)
Personally, I would be torn between my CZ PO1, as being as close to the perfect defensive pistol for me, and the inheritance Smith 10-8, the single most accurate revolver I have ever fired.

As much as I hate to admit it, it would have to be a Glock 19. Simply due to ease of maintenance and reliability.

Ruger Speed Six or Service Six. Or SP 100, preferably stainless, 4" barrel. Does it all and never wears out.

Blakc Majik: With due apologies there is no option for "other." Thus, please vote for the one listed.

Ah, tough call. Probably --

-- 4" S&W 66, or ...
-- 4" S&W pre-lock 686+, or ...
-- 4" S&W pre-lock 627, or ...

maybe the old Series 70 Colt's 1911 ... geez, I can't pick just one ...

A 5" Smith model 29. For heavy stuff, use some hot .44 Mag loads (and by heavy, I don't mean bear, I mean stuff near where I live). If you want lighter loads, you can replicate .357 mag with .44 special. 5" allows you a good medium between handy and accurate, and I like the idea of hunting with it--which, for where I live, 5" is plenty enough.

I refuse to even consider a world where I can legally own only one handgun, so I'll pretend I'm homeless and only have enough money for one... :)

In which case it would be a...

Nope. Can't do it. If I was homeless and could be gifted one gun, I would want something really expensive so I could sell it and buy more.

Read the signature by the way.

If I could have ONE gun for free to add to my current collection?

It would be one of those Sig Sauers that aren't available in the US.
