I voted for one of my Sigs, just because I haven't fired my Kimber yet. They've been extremely reliable up to this point. As to which one, I dunno. I like them both. It would be a tough call. And when I try out my kimber and get it broken in, that may change.

Just Jim: Its a hypo to see what company people really prefer.

I don't think you'll be getting preferences here due to the implied undertone of a law limiting you to one handgun. If that comes to pass then a whole lot of other stuff will have taken place and a whole different set of strategies and tactics will have been employed, hypothetical or not. Plus your list of options isn't complete, if it were I would have picked a T/C variety and stated one frame with 10+ different barrels, technically "one" gun. :)

Here is Wisconsin I believe that there is a law on the books that if you are sued for everything you own then they can take everything except for one gun which you will get to keep. In that situation my answer would be different as well.

only gun

my xfd45 acp with tru-glo tritium and fiber optic sights and surefire light, and crimson trace grips(when available) pretty cover all my bases.

I voted CZ because I love the way my friends gun shoots.I just ordered a p95 because I wanted to save $$$

from my collection (glock21,coltmk3,lugerp08,s&w38,rossi38,pedersoli.50flintlock,rugerRH44,rugerBH44) I think I'll go with the RedHawk, as was said earlier, it's a tank

Glock 22.

Plenty of power for a handgun.
Very good magazine capacity.
Light weight.
Extremely reliable.
Ammo and magazines are widely available.
More accurate than I am.
Accessories are very abundant.
Nearly every gunsmith is very familiar with the Glock.
Parts are easy to replace without a gunsmith.
You can shoot .357Sig rounds through it by installing a .357Sig barrel (no need to change the recoil spring or magazines).

Easy.

I like smith and wesson revolvers. especially 22s. they are cheap, durable and accurate.

I'm with Terry on this one, Ruger 3" SP-101 in 357 mag. Small enough to carry, long enough barrel to realize the velocity of magnum rounds, tough, durable, very versatile. I'm willing to bet even in the toughest of times, 38 special would still be available.:D

So we have to get rid of every pistol we already have?

I'd get another SA MI-45 to use as base gun for customization.

(I'd keep the ~30 1911 magazines I already have.)

Smith and Wesson

I had a hard time with this one. How available would ammunition be and at what cost? Everyone gets one weapon, but what is the limit on ammo?

I would opt for a six inch S&W K or N frame in .357 so I could shoot .38's as well. A solid 1911 would be right up there as well though.

A good case could be made

for a 4"-6" revolver in 357, 44 mag or even 45 colt. There just isn't much that a handgun can do, be it home defense, hunting or even concealed carry. that one of these can't do. With all that said however, If I could own only one it would be my Glock 23 and if I could cheat a little I would have a spare barrel in 357 sig.

I am a Colt man all the way but if I could have only one handgun it would be a Ruger New Model Blackhawk convertible in .45 Colt with a .45 Automatic cylinder.
.45 Colt can be loaded pretty stout for hunting and .45 auto for defense.
The Blackhawk would not be the best choice for a defensive pistol but it would do the trick and I could not see trying to hunt game with a Government Model.
Tough choice, can we have two?

I see Glock is still give it a tough fight. This is only because they do not make revolvers and thus not getting any votes from that end. Whereas most of the Ruger and SW votes are from revolver folks.
