I just ordered two of the bp guns that look like the peacemakers from cabellas today and am wondering if anyone has one of these. If so, do they shoot ok and are they very accurate. They are made by Uberti and I have a few of there guns that are very good guns. When I get them in I will post a pic of them and if I don't get any feedback from anyone who has one I will let everyone know how mine shoot. I don't really know why I got the black powder fever again but its taken over and I can't get enough of the fun of shooting them again. It's been about 30 years ago since I had any of them and the last 2 years has been a mission to get some of the fun back. :D

percussion

I am excited like Christmas is coming, won't be able to sleep til it gets here

I even have an outside chance of it coming Tuesday. Depends if it shipped yesterday or not. Tuesday would be good as I get off work very early in the afternoon and ought to have time to shoot it. If not i can't shoot until Friday.

omg we are all the same. i cant wait for my next day off to take out my new 1851. Both are sporting White steel now.

mykeal-thanks for the links, they have some good insight on the gun and I am assuming the pictures of the hammer and firing pin are of one that someone owns. The only way I can make my own opinion of one of the guns is to own one myself. Only then can I be fair about the rating of the gun. Besides, (woo hoo) I get another gun. Even if it's crap it would look good on the wall and would be something let the grandkids have. When it comes, I will give you an honest opnion of it. Hopefully this week sometime. I feel like a kid waiting on his Orphan Annie decoder ring to come in the mail.

bigbadgun-I checked out your site and must say you make some good looking holsters. I do leather work also but not to sell, just for myself and a few friends. I hope you get a good bunch of business from here cause the prices are definetly reasonable. Good Work

Thanks apachejack these good ol' boys around here do keep me busy. I started the same way just for myself and a few friends and now hey what can I say I love working with leather and I love making holsters and everybody has thier own idea of what a holster should be so I do the best I can.

apachejack - I own the gun in the pictures. It's a beautiful gun to look at and it shoots wonderfully well. Like any real object made by man, it has it's flaws, but one of them is certainly NOT ugliness.

Dixie also sells that percussion 1873 model. From what I heard, it was originally built for Cowboy Action matches in Europe and UK, where cartridge guns are so heavily restricted that most competitors have to go through a whole lot of work just to use them in the matches.
The 1873 percussion allows competitors to use a percussion revolver for the matches, yet, still maintain the feel and looks of an 1873 SAA.

If anybody has got one of these, make sure you get the loading tool for them too. They don't have loading levers, and their cylinders have to be loaded outside. Also these percussion 1873s come with a defunct ejector assembly.

I just checked my email address that I use for purchases. I got mail from Cabelas saying my revolver DID ship friday and the UPS link that comes with it tells me that it is scheduled for delivery tomorrow!! Woohoo

I'm jealous Im283, mine won't be here for a few more days. I am chomping at the bit to get it. When you get yours why don't you post pics of them here. I'd like to see them. And Mykeal, your sure right about the looks of the gun, and I bet I can live with the flaws.

It came today, So far all I have done is wipe the packing oil off the oustide of it to take a pic.

Gonna gut it, clean it and re-oil the action. Should have some shooting time left and the weather is fine today.

Here is a pic

Im283 - Have to say that you've one fine looking revolver, there.

Reviews (both of 'em) at Cabela's site are both 5-star, as well. Would be interested in learning of your impressions of this piece, after you've had a chance to take it out to "the range."

WOW, I can't wait now. Just think, I ordered two of those babies. IM283, that has made my day. I can't wait to see if the wood on mine is as good looking. You sure have a fine looking shooter there and I'm gonna maul the mail man if he has a package in the next few days.

Took the new revolver out yesterday afternoon and ran about 30 rounds through it.

It loads easily enough using a loading stand. .454 ball, 30 grains of BP and #11 caps.

The cylinder pin is pretty simple to remove. Action on the revolver is very nice. Trigger pull is as sweet as any other revolver I own. I had absolutely no trouble with caps coming off the nipples. I could fire the gun as fast as I could cock it and pull the trigger. I did not give any thought to where the exploded caps were going after the first couple of cylinder loads. They either fell away from the action or remained in the cavity where the nipple sits. I experienced no binding at all, and of course I wiped down the cylinder pin everytime I reloaded.

The only downside I see to it is capping it. The loading gate is not really big enough for my fat fingers to fit in easily but I can do it alright. Of course it can be capped before putting the cylinder back in. I did it once and it kind of made me nervous so I used a capping tool I improvised a few weeks ago and it worked great.

Here are a couple of pics of the capping tool. Sorry that they are blurry but it still should give you an idea of what i did. The tool itself is a piece of aquarium tubing and a piece of fence wire that fits perfect inside of it. The tube also holds the cap like it was made to do so. I insert the cap into the tubing and slide it over the nipple. Then push on the wire with my thumb while holding the tube with my hand to to release the cap from the tubing. Kind of like a plunger. I hope that made sense.

Makes sense to me. Have you considered a position within the surgical profession? Or, at least, within surgical supply… Suppose that, after one has gotten used to the tool, frustration levels drop, correspondingly. And, since you report a lack of binding problems, it must work for you.

Have to say that it is most enjoyable, reading about some of the gadgets folks can come up with to make life a bit easier to live with.

Oh, thanks for sharing your impressions, as well. Methinks “things” are, mayhap, not all of the gloom as was reported for this revolver. Good to read.

I'm really glad that it worked out so well for you and that it's not a lemon disguised as a beautiful pistol, especially with it having such nice wood.
Do the sights shoot to point of aim for you?
I feel bad now for thinking the worst about it because it's not only a very handsome piece but it has now proven to be truely functional too!
Hooray for you guys who had enough faith in this Uberti model to go ahead and purchase it, and I hope that it provides many years of shooting enjoyment. :)

Well, I got mine in Wednesday afternoon and my boss and I shot them thursday for about two hours at work. Nice way to spend an afternoon at work. The pistols are all I hoped for and more. My boss liked them so well he is going to order one for himself. I used Goex black powder @ 30 grains with #10 caps. I used a regular capper I have had for years and I capped the cylinder on the loading stand. As was said before I didn't see where the spent caps went but I did have one hang the cylinder up just one time. Other than that the guns operated flawlessly. We shot 60 rounds through each gun and never wiped them until we were through. I usually don't do that but I wanted to see if they would work while dirty. Both guns shot a little low and to the left of the bull. That was at 20 yrds. I didn't shoot any other distance so I can't really say if they will come into the bull or not. Just too excited to be shooting them to take time to move the target. Overall in my opinion, these guns are going to be one of my favorite ones to shoot. They have the look, the feel and the durability of the old west guns we look for in a shooter. I will post pics as soon as my company  leaves. (probably be monday night;)) My wife's two sisters and their kid.

glad yours finally got to you Jack, sounds like they are good shooters.

Mine pretty much shoots to point of aim as far as windage. I am not going to anyting to the front sight. If the gun shoots high or low at certain distances it will be up to me to learn how much of the sight needs to stick up in the air to hit at that distance.

did you use the loading stand that came with them or one you already have?

I could have sworn the book that Uberti sent called for #11 caps, I will recheck it.

Can't wait to see pics of yours

BBG, remember is is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission ;)
