PM9

VC 7XXX.

Went back to Kahr once. Excellent customer service. 400 flawless rounds later it is my number three favorite carry.

1) S&W M&P 340
2) Seecamp LWS .380

PM9

On its way back to Kahr- 4th trip...better each time, but still has ftc occasionally, still doesn't shoot to poa with any loads. Initially couldn't get thru a mag w/o malfunctions.

Have a number of 9mm semiautos in various sizes/mfrs- no problems except for the Kahr. Soon as it works properly it's for sale.

P40 is with me every day the 642 isn't. Utterly reliable from the get-go. Shoots 180 gr. rounds to POA and is just a great CCW.

I have P9 that I picked up LNIB a few years ago for $350.
When I first got it the slide would occasionally lock back with rounds still in the mag. The trigger pin also walked out.
I was able to fix the premature lock back myself and I also smoothed the slide release down (it needed it).
A call to Kahr got the trigger pin walking out repaired free of charge. Seems mine was a really old P9 and that they had engineered a fix for that since then.

Anyhow, it came back working perfectly and with a new slide release, which I then had to smooth down again.
It's my CCW gun now and has worked perfectly for about 1K rounds.
And it holds the distinction of being the only defective gun I've ever seen that was actually satisfactorily corrected by the factory.

I had a P9 that was great. Not something I wanted to shoot at the range all day, but I could carry it all day no problem and it went band every time I pulled the trigger.

FWIW, the gun shop I was at today told me to run away from polymer frame Kahrs but the steel ones are fine. I've wanted a CW9 for a while.

P45 Reliability

My P45 had light primer strike issues out of the box. This happened with five different brands of ammo. The overall failure rate was 7%. I realized that it was not going to magically fix itself at the end of the break in period. So I called Kahr and they sent me a new striker and spring. It has ran fine for 604 rounds since. I really like this pistol. Relatively light weight, fits my hand perfectly, points naturally, amazing accuracy. Another four hundred more trouble free rounds or so and I will make it my primary CCW.

Two steel Kahr's: K9, MK9

K9: Second owner, first owner only put a box or two through it. Probably 2k/2.5k rounds through it at this point. I expect it to go bang every time and it does.

MK9: Second owner, again first owner didn't shoot it much if any. Probably 1.5k rounds with zero issues. My wife had an FTF the first time she tried it. Discussed limp-wristing with her and no more issues.

I'll buy another K9 or MK9 the next time the opportunity comes along...

If you have a T9 and would like a Browning HiPower in trade give me a shout.

I have the PM9 and P45 with about 500 -600 rounds through each without a hiccup. Very reliable and accurate between 7 and 15 yards. The PM9 is my off-duty carry. Love it and would consider purchasing the PM40 if the price is right!

TP9 with 1 ftf in first 50 but nothing since with 600+ rounds.

Very rough shooting at first but after GOOD lube job and 200 rnds bullseyes galore...

Really needs a slingshot or slide release to chamber but nothing wrong with that i guess.

I have one of the 10 out of 13 (!) steel .40's that works. I dutifully fired 200 rounds through my MK40 to break it in and had no failures at all.

10 out of 13 in the poll so far. Holy cow. I expected better than that. I wonder if that's really representative.

eta: Yikes, the plastic .40's are 50/50! That can't be right. I'm glad I didn't have to shoot 200 rounds through a 16 oz .40 tho.

I have an MK9 that has been very reliable after the 200rd. break-in. During break-in, the slide would occasionally fail to return to battery. Since then, the only issues I've had are strange jams when I don't lube the gun adequately.

I'm familiar with ftf and fte but what does ftc mean?
Failure to chamber?

I own, and carry, an 11 year old E9 and a year and a half old K9 Elite. Both are rock solid reliable and very very accurate.

I currently own a stainless K9. It has never failed to feed, except with 115 grain Silvertips. They wouldn't make it up the feed ramp, perhaps due to the shorter bullet length. With any other ammo, the feeding is utterly flawless.

I used to own a P9. It had numerous little issues, so I returned it to the factory for repair. Recoil would push out both the slide lock and the trigger pin. The feeding wasn't up to the same level as my older K9. After the hack job the factory did to retain the trigger pin, I sold it for a hundred dollar loss. Oh well.

Now here's my big problem with Kahrs - small parts breakage.
  • Strikers - In just my stainless K9, I've been through four strikers - broke one today!
  • Trigger springs - I've broken two trigger springs, albeit they were the older two coil springs.
  • Cocking cam springs - Two of these have broken. When they went, it was the sickest feeling in the world.
  • Ejectors - Broke one of these too.

So my feeling is, Kahr cannot produce a durable product. I was considering purchasing a twin to my K9, but no longer. I appreciate the ergonomics, the simplicity, and the style of the Kahr. But they don't last.

Just curious and since I have one of the very early K9s and have not had a single problem of any kind, I'm wondering how many rounds you have through the pistols?

Good question. Frankly, I'm not sure myself. Mine's a somewhat early one, s/n AR0xxx. I purchased it new - wow, 11 years ago, as a 21st birthday present to myself. I can only guesstimate 8000 to 10000 rounds. I shoot much more often now, and at higher round counts per outing, than a decade ago.

My experience is that you have to watch ammo. I have thousands of rounds of 147gn 9mm hydrashok, and it doesn't feet too well in my K-9. The long bullet is just a little too long. Best results seem to come with lighter bullets with a shorter OAL. I have found that Glaser is 100% reliable. That plastic ball in the nose really works well.

Basically, make sure whatever load you are using doesn't scrape the magazine and you should be GTG.

YMMV
