I picked up a used Kahr PM40 at East Orange Shooting Sports here in Orlando. It looks like it's got less than 200 rounds through it and came with 3 mags - two of the 6 rounders and one 5 round. For $450 it would make one heck of a concealable defense pistol.

Well, I tried it out at the range before concidering it carryable. Good thing I did. With the 6 round mags the slide would lock every other shot. My guess is that the thumb on my shooting hand (right handed) was touching the slide lock or mag release during the recoil of the shot. In less than 50 rounds, the mag followers on two of the mags began to *disintegrate*. I kid you not. Chunks of plastic began sloughing off the base of the followers and the little metal tab on the lip pushed itself out enough to keep the follower from being pushed down. I was stunned. :cuss:

I've never seen this sort of thing happen before. The Kahr appears well made and the trigger feels great. The folks at East Orange Shooting Sports were very helpful though and are dealing with Kahr to get new mag followers. Kudos to them; they're determined to make it right. :)

Anyone else have similar issues with a PM40? This appears to be a later model Kahr as it has the dimple on the underbelly of the slide.

yeah I would call and get some new mags first and tell them of your problem.

If I shoot my PM9 with a straight-ahead-thumbs grip, because it is so small my shooting hand (right) thumb does contact the end of the slide stop during recoil. It has not locked a slide back yet, but it does gouge my thumb a bit. I adopt a different grip for this one, which is to curl my right thumb down and put my left thumb pad over the thumbnail. If you call or e-mail customer service and explain the magazine situation, they will probably send you new mags or followers.

Got a call from East Orange Shooting Sports yesterday. They've already contacted Kahr and have 3 followers being shipped at no charge - plus they've thrown in a full day of range time for me to function test the pistol! It's very worth it to buy from a reputable local dealer. :D

I hope this fixes it - the PM40 has all the makes of a great concealable CCW.

Now that's customer service all around! A good store and a good manufacturer. Keep going back giving them your business!
