Kahr PM9 Experience?

Thanks for all the responses and info, guys!

Being as this gun will mostly be a BUG for CC, but also function as a primary in certain roles (workplace and on my body at home), I want something that runs reliably right out of the box. It sounds like whilst the PM9 is more hit than miss in this regard, the question still exists. That plus the first round chambering oddity and the required 200 round break-in, has all got me thinking it's not the right choice for me.

So thanks again for helping me figure that out.

My cm9 was junk and the customer service response motivated me not to try anything of theirs ever again. Nice size and great trigger pull, just completely unrelaible.

Are you referring to the instruction to chamber the first round by using the slide stop?

Would you really trust a defensive gun to run without breaking it in for a couple of hundred rounds?

Yes. I'm talking about those instructions. I'm simply not thrilled with the idea of changing how I perform an emergency reload. What I practice now is already engrained, and does not involve depressing the slide release, which is a fine motor skill function.

Would I trust a defensive gun to run without breaking it in for a couple hundred rounds? I'd certainly like to believe I could. And in fact I have done so, after a couple mags of FMJ and a mag of the JHPs I intend to carry.

FWIW: this is for the first 200 rounds.
It specifically addresses an issue that some shooters have of not holding the frame in a stable grip while retracting the slide. Some folks tend to allow the frame move backwards while the slide is pulled to the rear and than letting it move forward as the slide is released...this compromises the slides ability to chamber a round reliably. It is actually true of all pistols, but it's effect is exaggerated as the size of the pistol is reduced...the Kahr is tightly sprung for reliability.

I commonly rack my slide, during an emergency reload, using an overhand grip

I usually like to run 500 rounds through any pistol I'd contemplate carrying for defensive purposes. We have different tolerance of trust levels for reliable function

I would steer clear of Kahrs. Once upon a time they were innovative because there wasn't a lot of other options in guns that size, but the ones I had were at best "okay" guns, long triggers with no short reset whatsoever. Now there are MUCH better options than a Kahr.

I'm hoping my posts didn't scare you off, as all that stuff I posted was from 2013'ish.

I also posted about the SCCY-CPX-2 that has a similar DAO trigger but is actually hammer fired and has 2nd strike (and 3rd) capable.
Your condition one (click-no bang) would be 2nd strike on that gun...
You might give it a 2nd look:

jmo,

No, you didn't. I just took a step back and had a long think about it. I guess what it comes down to is that reliability is my primary concern when buying a CC gun of any description. So whilst there are other things I want in addition to that, I'd rather purchase a product with an excellent track record. And I'm not quite getting that feeling about Kahr pistols, based on what I've read here and elsewhere.

Any individual gun many have a failure, of course. This I know. The most tangible reason I can give for my decision, is that I don't feel comfortable.

Later this year, I'll probably accept the fractional increase in height and width, and the addition 1/2 inch or so of length over my G42, and just buy a G43. I know Glock, I trust them, and they've always performed well for me.
