Kel Tec PF9 opinions

Once you practice with it a good bit and get used to the DAO it's a great gun. Mine has been 100% reliable and makes for a great CCW. The PF9 is much more comfortable in my hand than say a G26 or a XDM subcompact. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, especially at just over $200.

I bought mine about a year ago. It has the metal mag release. It has been 100% reliable, I really like it.

I can't say much more than anyone else here has said, mine has run great my wife loves that little gun she ran 300rds thru without any issues. My only complaint has to do with how fast it will develop rust, it gets carried IWB and if it comes in contact with my skin it starts rusting. So now I wear a tank "T" under everything. For $200+ you can't go wrong.

I bought mine back in 09 and it has a steel mag release. It's not much fun to shoot, but it's my favorite carry gun, and I carry it more than my other pistols combined. It's always been reliable for me with all kinds of ammo. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants a good carry gun.

Copied from post 4, because it applies almost word-for-word to me as well.

Range Report!

Fit finish were good, no rust no blemishes, I got the blued slide and black grip. The mag release button is steel.

Put 100 rounds of Remington UMC 115 grain with no failures to report. I was not shooting for accuracy as I beleive that after break in, at least 200 rounds, accuracy can then be focused on. The DA only trigger is long but smooth with a crisp break and short reset.

I also ran 30 rounds of some questionable reloads and had 2 extraction failures......not too worried about those.

One problem I did encounter, the rear site was cracked from being over tightened at the factory and was also not aligned to the front wich is not adjustable. Quality of the rear site is very poor. First it's plastic with a metal screw for tightening that is tool long. Too long meaning when you tighten down the rear site the screw is too long and prohibits the slide from moving back. I called Kel Tec and complained and they sent me a new rear site with a shim kit at no charge. I may forgo the shim kit and just find a screw that is shorter.

Overall impressions are very good. I shot 130 rounds and the recoil was manageable. The rear site is not a deal breaker, I paid 215 bucks for the gun. For that amount of money the gun is a incredible deal.

I've mine more than 2 years, and have shot more than 2000 rounds through it. 100% reliable (metal mag release). Their customer service is amazing, got me my metal mag release free and quickly. Enjoy yours!

cm 40

I am hoping the Kahr cm40 will be available at the gun show Jan. 14th in NH.
Already have an LCP and LCR and I'm convinced compact conceal is the way to go.

It is a crap shoot. Maybe you will get one "that has been flawless for a kabillion rounds" and maybe you will get one that really likes Florida better than your location. Nobody can say for sure which it will be.
yes, this is the story with most models of Kel Tec's (and Taurus') IME

I had a PF9, it was 99% with +P ammo, but pretty glitchy with the target loads.
It sucks as a plinker/range gun.

I traded it for a Taurus 709 and am very happy with the move.

I usually pocket carry my smaller guns, and I do occasionally miss the lighter weight and slightly smaller size of the PF9, not to mention Kel-Tecs awesome customer service.

A nice advantage of the PF9 is its compact and slim size. Here is a comparison to the Ruger LCP.

PF-9

I've owned two, still own one. I have not shot anything but Federal 115 gr. HP ammo. A few hundred rounds through both. Both have been 100% and no burps at all. I lube with RemOil and Sentry Hi-slip grease. I did not clean the pistols often and then only minor field strip. They are the cleanest shooting pistols I've owned. They never accumulated powder residue etc. - always looked "just cleaned". I guess most of the powder burns out side the piece.

i seem to have bad luck with a lot of guns. Bought a PF9 last week and wish I hadn't.

Had only very short range session but experienced numerous malfunctions of varying types.
Plan try different ammo and have heard Kel Tel will make it right, but I just hate to have to send a gun back to the factory.

you really should check out the diamondback 9mm, the price range meets your criteria, the size is very small, it looks like a baby glock
