Kel-Tec PMR-30. What do you think?

I am going to disagree with those uneducated folks that say the PMR 30 is the poor man's FN 57. I just picked up my PMR 30 yesterday and can tell you that it feels like a cheap piece of crap compared to my FN 57.

I have 10rd extensions on my 57, so it also holds 30rds. While the extension makes the mag stick out a little...it is still 30rds of 57.

I have not had the opportunity to shoot the PMR, but I have dry fired it and must say the trigger is nice. My biggest complaint about the PMR is that the polymer is very slick around the grip. I will be adding a Hogue handall to prevent slippage.

Another poster above mentioned how difficult it is to load the last 10rounds or so...I agree with that statement.

I am looking forward to doing a side by side evaluation of the PMR 30 and the 57.

Awesome, you have both.

How about some pictures comparing the two, side view AND rear view to show thickness would be perfect.
Other common guns would be nice, too. Perhaps a 1911, a j-frame, a Ruger mk__ and/or 22/45, or anything else that most people have in the safe.

I, personally, want one... it will be nothing more than a range toy for me... as if I need another one of those. I had the Grendel P-30 and was impressed with it... though, since I could part with it for more than it was worth to me, I sold it (knowing that the PMR-30 was on its way.) SO, once they are widely available and the bugs have been worked out, I will most definitely add one to my collection... one in 17 HMR or MII would be pretty sweet too.

if you ask me (your not) why would you do a comparison to the 5.7 the price alone should let you know why it feels cheeper IT IS, FN vs Kal-tec gee i wonder.
The point for me is that it holds 30 rounds of defiantly lethal .22 mag. 30 rounds in one hand

HOLY MUZZLE FLASH batman!
Big flash and loud too for a 22, louder than a lot of handguns even many larger cal. ones. Friend of mine just bought one and he just had his first range trip with it. The noise and flash impressed him, and me, at least until I fired off my Automag III 30 carbine in the next lane  You need sunglasses on when you fire off one of those things.

I've got one on order. They are difficult to get without paying the huge scalpers premium.

I want one but will not pay GB prices! 5 were listed and all were listed at way over MSRP! Hello scalpers the MSRP is $415 ! The sad part is that 3 of the 5 listed had bids! Just say no to price gouging sellers ! :fire:

The cool factor is there! 30 rounds of 22 Mag. is fun ! I'm a cowboy shooter so it's six guns and 1911's for me and I still want one ! FN's 57 is a great gun but for the price give me the PMR-30 !

they are a blast, and a hoot to shoot

I love mine. gave $300 for it at a gun show 3 months ago. It will shoot anything I feed it also. very accurate gun.

Not selling mine for any price. I seen a couple at the gun show for $579 last weekend.

If they would come out with a .22lr version of the PMR, would be interested in it. It would be loads of fun to have a 30 round .22lr pistol instead of the normal 10 round only that you get in other pistols. I'm not interested in the .22 Magnum round. Not nearly good enough when it comes to cost effectiveness of plinking, which would be the only reason to have this gun [IMO].

Kel-Tec, . . . make a .22lr version.

My thoughts exactly.

Also, here's a link to the gunblast.com. test shoot of the PMR-30

I wouldn't put any faith at in a gunblast review, they loved the Chiappa 1911-22, biggest POS I've ever bought. What really chaps is I had to pay shipping to send it back and they didn't fix it, if anything it came back worse! Took six weeks to boot. I had to pay shipping for warranty work on an EAA pistol, but at least they fixed and were very fast.

love mine

My PMR 30 will digest any 22 mag ammo. Great accuracy and just a blast to shoot.

My PMR 30 will digest any 22 mag ammo.

"any" is pretty broad. I've read plenty of reports that it won't feed soft point ammo.

Although I agree this should be the case for any decent gun. I am willing to accept a few ammo type limitations for guns that are very small for their caliber, not so much for full sized guns.

I've yet to encounter a PMR 30 for sale, while I'd be more interested in a .22lr version, it could be fun.

As I said

Mine has taken without problems and shoots just fine with every different type of 22 mag ammo I have tried.

i'd rather they'd made it in 7.62x25 at least its easier to find and inexpensive....better round too. i hardly ever see 22mag and when i go its almost as much as 40 and 45

I'd like a slightly more compact version maybe with a little less capacity and bulk.

If they would come out with a .22lr version of the PMR, would be interested in it.

Me too on both of those, but it didn't stop me from putting one on order.
Kel Tec will expand the lineup as soon as they stop selling every single pmr30 they can make immediately.

A carbine and .22lr conversion are in the works (I can't be the only one reading the KelTec updates on their website and facebook, can I?) and I'm in for both if my pmr30 ever arrives. As far as ammo cost goes; the really nice .22WMR ammo prices near here are a bit lower than the cheapest crappiest 9x19 steel-case, and nowhere near the cost of .45acp, even the cheapest Tula .45acp 230gFMJ is double the cost of CCI .22wmr maximags in round-nose or HP.

And seeing as I've been trying to stock up Tokarev and WMR ... where the heck are you finding plentiful Tok, klash545? Non-corrosive?

I'm interested in the PMR-30. .22mag isn't all that expensive, I shot a Ruger single six in .22 mag and had a blast, but 30 rounds in an autoloader compared to 6 in a revolver, come on, whats not to like? Kel-Tec is one of the more innovative companies out there as far as coming up with new ideas and getting them to market. I do wish their QC was a bit better, but I still plan on getting one.

I'm still waiting to see one in person.

When I hear they've got them working right, and the .22LR conversion is working right, I will definitely buy one.
