I've owned two Kel-Tecs; a P-32 and a PF-9. With both, I gave them a good cleaning, lube, and very basic fluff and buff before firing. And both have been flawless. I carry the PF-9, alternating with a S&W 642. The P-32 now resides with my daughter in a crime-ridden northern city. I'm thikning about a P-3AT for warm weather carry now, too.

Very handy pistols that are low cost, kinda crude, compact, and lightweight. They aren't something you'll form a strong bond with, like a nice 1911 or a fine S&W revolver. But they serve well in their intended purpose.

My father and I both own P-32s. They are very close in serial numbers.

They both have over 200 rounds through them (Ayoob test). Only ammo that has been fired is Fiocchi FMJs and JHPs, but both types of ammunition have functioned flawless. Not a single problem from either.

My opinion of KT is good, and i am looking into purchasing a PF9.

At a recent gunshow (31 Jan & Feb 1st '09) in Bessemer, AL a used
KEL-TEC P32 was on a dealer's table priced at $350~!

Is this a sign of the times~?

No, just the sign of an idiot dealer or a greedy dealer. The former being bad and the latter being capitalistic and not understanding the market.

P-3AT at the local gun show in Houston was only $280.

A quick google shopping search shows that the P32 should not be anywhere near $350:
http://www.google.com/products?clie...a=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

The caveat being that if it had a chrome or parkerized finish, it might have been about the right price, though still too much for a used one IMO.

According to your Poll 40% of KelTec firearms have Problems Out of Box.

I would Like to see, if any, issues with a PLR16. Ive not seen one Bad posting of a PLR 16.

The poll should have been Restricted to standard Carry guns From KelTec

P3AT #1--carried in pocket every day for about 3 years. Some feeding issues when it was new. A 2 week trip to KT for a fluff and buff and it's been 100% since.
P3AT #2--100% since day one--Have had for 2 years as back up in case the first one poots out.
P11--100% since day one--I've had it for 3+ years
Sub 2000--Has feeding issues. It's the S&W mag one and I believe it's mag related

I've owned 4 (two P32's, a P11 & a P40) & one of the P32's had a feed issue develop after ~200 rounds.
Kel-Tec took care of it & we never had another issue.

My original poll had each gun listed but it looked too complicated. This was the best balance w/o overkill, imho.

I wonder what an acceptable failure rate is for the gun community.

In response to Frank Drebin;

My response wasn't intended to be sarcastic, so if taken that way,..I'll apologize. What I meant is that they are not a highly refined and polished target firearm. Based on my personal experience,...with the 3rd generation P3AT and a P-11,..after a few hundred rounds through each,....they work for the purpose intended. Neither are a gun I'd want to spend a lot of time on the range target shooting with, because that's not what they are made for. Mine work. Period. That's what I expected them to do when I bought them,... to get wear on them from being carried and used, dinged up, finish worn, and to put rounds on target if and when I need them too, when and where it's up close and personal. Did I mention that mine work?? Some folks swear by them,...others at them. YMMV,...if so,..get a different gun. Just that.

Oh no, I didn't mean it to come across that way either. I was just saying that the polling features are very limited and only allow 100 characters so I ended up going this route. I would have loved to go with more in depth poll. As you can see from my original post I have had great results with the P11 and P3at but HORRIBLE results with the P32 and PF9. I wanted to see if others had hit-and-miss experiences like mine.

Now I know that asking the original question is a bit like walking into a hospital and asking the patients to answer questions about their overall health. However, it appears that the numbers have stabilized into the 60/40 area with the sampling group with roughly 18% having to go back for service and 13% having major failures. While the majority of people have had excellent reports, the real question is, what would be considered "good" numbers? If you were making a decision on a carry firearm, what would you want to see from it? 100% is what everyone desires but realistically, what true percentage would make you comfortable with a gun purchase? 90/10? 95/5? 99/1? What would you REALISTICALLY expect to see from a poll on a gun forum?

My P-11 has been perfect out of the box for 3 years and several thousand rounds. My PF-9 shot 7" high and 7" to the left of point of aim, right out of the box. Sent it back and two weeks later got it back not only shooting to point of aim but doing so very accurately. They also changed out the plastic mag release button to a metal one and sent me two (2) free mags for my troubles.

Love them Kel-Tecs!!!

Just curious, if you had to send it back, why didn't you vote for that one too?

Years ago, I remember reading an article about the S&W SW99/ New Jersey State Police debacle. After S&W took the SW99's back they selected a number of guns and sent them to an independant lab for testing.

Independant testing showed an average failure rate of 3%. S&W considered that acceptable and resold the guns to the public.

I'm guessing that this falls well within the realistic expectations of most "machine" manufacturers. I would be happy with making a positive decision on a manufacturer with those numbers. In my opinion, I would be hard pressed to buy a specific gun with a double-digit return-for-service rate. That being said, no manufacturer releases those numbers so there is no way to tell. My XD has been FLAWLESS and I expect it to remain so but I have no idea what their rate of return for service is.

I obtained my P3AT in the last year and am pleased with it for what it is. It isn't a Sig, but it didn't cost $1000 either.

Haved owned all kel tec guns a little fluff and buff good to go. remember they are not custom shop guns .a little care goes a long way.go to ktog for info;)

I have P32, 3Pat, and P11. All work fine and I've had no reason to return any of them.

My only issue had to do with the 3Pat trigger biting my finger that was fixed by taking about 1/4" off the bottom of the trigger.
Nice to be able to do that without a care over whether I might be destroying collector value - the guns don't come with any of that.

I have ownd a P3AT for over a year now and love it. I have put way over 500 rounds through it mostly FMJ but over a hundred various JHPs. Did the fluff and buff. I carry it every day (seriously) with the belt clip there is no reason not to, and no wear except around the edges at front of frame. Not to pick but a previous co-worker recived a LCP not long after they hit the market. It had to go back twice (once for the drop recall) but I must say they look nicer and if I could have found one for sale around $300 I would have picked it up. At the time if you could find one they wanted over $400. My girlfriends father recently bought a PF-9. He hasnt shot it much but I havnt heard any bad news from him regarding it. A friend I met through him has the PLR16 and I must say I love it. We all took our CCW class together and it was the center of attention. I wish he had used it for his shooting qualification, that would have been awesome.

I have a Gen 1 P-32 and a P3AT. Have a PF9 with lazer sight. Have a KelTec SUB 2000 9mm folding rifle that uses S&W mags.
They have all worked every time I pull the trigger. Aint the prettiest guns out there. A great value gun in my opinion but dont as a Ruger extremist. (I have a bunch great Rugers too.)
