I had my heart set on a Kel-tec SU-16c, till I held one at a local gun show. I did not like the way it felt or how it shouldered. So personally I would go with the Saiga, if those were the only two options.

This has all been very interesting as I'm looking for a "sporter" style 223 autoloader. My wife does not like military style weapons and I got over that when I was in more than 30 odd years ago.

Now to get my hands on one of each and see how they shoulder and feel. Ergonomics is important to me. I'm old and cranky and I like things to fit - ME. I don't worry too much now they fit other folks.

Thanks all for the in depth info :)

I sounds like either platform is possibly more accurate that a Ruger Mini14? Is that a fair assumption?

The mini-14s have been famous for not being that accurate but ok for most ranch-rifle expectations. My experience with the newer models is different in the sense that accuracy has been slightly improved.
There is a mini-14 target that is more accurate but it a heavier system.
Make sure you verify what chamber you want as they have them in .223 and 5.56 NATO as well.

For the keltec carbine it is one of the greatest latest US made innovations with enough maturity already to know the are reliable, tough and accurate. More accurate than the mini 14. It is an AR-15 bolt locking system. There is plenty of information here...

The Saiga can use a compliance conversion but you do not have to if you do not want. It is a very robust well built carbine with Russian Made pedigree.
