I have a Sub2000 with S&W 59 mag set up. I also have a M59 and higher 30 rd capacity mags for it is also very easy to get.
My Vote is Kel-Tec in any mag configuration is better than a Hi-Point. Love the way the Sub folds too.

His decision might well be made by what is available to buy. I've been waiting for my distributors to come up with a -single- Sub2K for nearly a year now ....

I agree they can be somewhat hard to find, but not that tricky if you use the internet. At a year, your distributor is lally-gagging - forget him and buy one off Gunbroker.

Love my KT

I Have had my Sub 2000 for about a month now and am Impressed with it
every time i shoot. It will knock down the large silhouette pigs at 100 yards
until I get tired of going to set them up. I chose the 40 SW/Glock mag
configuration and am waiting for my 31 round mags to get here this week.
Its negatives are its trigger, powder residue and smoke from the bolt being
so close to ur face. I have been shooting 180grn lead bullets and have been
experiencing moderate leading with max reloads. I will adjust the reloads on
my next batch and see if that makes the leading less pronounced. The gun
will usually shoot jam free for about the first 100-150 rounds then I will get
one or two FTE the rest of the shooting session. I am wondering if I where
using Jacketed or copper plated bullets if the gun would run jam free. I bought
mine on gunbroker for $309 + 17 shipping + $25 FFL transfer.

Chucky, I generally run cheap steel cased russian ammo in mine with jacketed bullets - I normally fire upwards of 300 rounds a session. Completely jam free. I now have over 5000 rounds through my sub, the only stoppages I've ever had with it were during the first 500-600 round breakin (and the sub is a gun that does need a breakin).

I waited about a month ... try another LGS

re: sub2k availability, i got mine about 3-4 months ago i think -- i was looking around for many months, with everyone giving me the same line about not being able to find them. i was just about to give up, when i called cdnn (cdnninvestments.com). he told me they were out of stock at the time, but regularly get them in and to call him back in about a week. i had little hope, but hit the jackpot. great price as well. SO, long-winded way of saying go ahead and give cdnn a try.

I certainly don't know the local shops in your area, but if you have a good relationship with one you should be able to get something worked out. Do you have a shop where you deal with the owner, or do you go to places where you're dealing with someone low on the food chain? I buy from owner-operated shops whenever possible, and make a point to give them some profit while I'm at it (in cash whenever possible)
Perhaps that is why when I asked about a sub2000 I was quoted a price and had one in a month, in the exact configuration I wanted (well, the one I REALLY wanted was one that took XD mags, but that doesn't exist)

This one is easy for me. I am biased....I own a Kel Tec 2000 in 9mm with the Golck mag. These guns are amazing bangs for the buck. Mine never skips a beat. The only possible complaint is that you will shoot way too much ammo. Think back to your childhood. One of my annual dreams was to shoot the BB guns at the fair. These Kel Tecs remind me of the ease and thrill I felt back then. Bot howdy do I burn up the ammo shooting the "star" out of the bullseye.

I own the KT Sub2k with .40 Glock mags. In all honesty, it's an OK gun. Shoots fine, doesn't jam, but it's not that great from an ergo standpoint. Also, it's too big to be a good concealed gun, and too small to be a good carbine. I bought it for the pure joy of having another gun, but it wouldn't be my first pick in any real situation. To answer the KT vs HP question: eh / both / neither.

I -am- the "local shop in my area" ... an FFL. I can't get one from any distributor/wholesaler.

Well that's entirely different then.

Damned if I know, I got my favorite LGS to scare up a new one for me with very little effort. Either I got lucky or you're getting the shaft.

The Kel-Tec is going to be my next firearm purchase. You can get 33 round mags for them, carry them in a briefcase or daypack, and they weigh 4 pounds. They are absolutely the best long arm on the planet for traveling with.

Why do you guys spend $250 on a hi-point? I love their products, but my cabine cost me $130 used, 6 years ago. If you shop around, under 200 should be no problem(unless you want a different stock). In SE MI, Hi-points are available new or used, but I've only seen a Kel-Tec arbine once, used, going for $350. Naturally yur results may vary, but I think the edge for value still goes to the hi-point.
