My city's police department posts updates to arrests, crimes, etc on their Facebook page and I always get a kick out of the illegally obtained/carried guns they post. They're mostly Highpoints by a big margin but you do see some Berettas, Rugers, and a Glock every now and again. They posted this LCP today:

With this description:
A .380 Ruger handgun was recovered today, after witnesses reported seeing a man brandishing a gun. The weapon was located after the suspect discarded the gun during a foot chase, and it was found loaded with 6 rounds in the extended magazine. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon for Unlawful Intent, and Fail to Obey a Lawful Order of a Police Officer.

Interesting to carry a tiny gun with a huge magazine then only load 6 rounds??? I almost never see JHP loaded either and when I do it looks like a grab bag combination of different brands, ages, and weights with FMJ mixed in.

It's a psychological thing. They think they're the 'shizzle' carrying it, and they think it casues fear in their opponents/victims.o_O Maybe that's all the rounds he had....

He or his buddy probably used the missing rounds for "function testing" or during the commission of a crime.

There is so much emphasis on this board about equipment but mindset is everything whether we are talking legal or illegal acts.

If this guy was robbing you with the above gun it would work as intended... and I bet he has had way more guns pointed in his face and experience with moving/shooting under duress than 99% of CCW holders.

There are a lot of violent offenders that have been shot or stabbed on multiple occasions. Just because he doesn't have a nice new handgun with $1/round hollow points doesn't mean he doesn't know how to use a weapon.

When Winston Churchill was a Sub-altern in South Africa, during the Boer War, he is quoted as saying something like -
" There is nothing so exhilarating as being shot at, and missed."

I can attest to the veracity of the statement.

I wonder if that magazine would feed more than 6 rounds reliably?

It makes me think of the 10 round magazines I bought for my NAA Guardian, which only holds 6 rounds in the grip. The 10 round magazines are not very reliable if you actually put 10 rounds in them.

Doesn't mean he does either; The vast majority of such folk are thankfully ignorant about firearms, and it's best kept that way. And about the other part of your statement-there are a lot of combat vets with CCWs. Some of us here have had guns pointed at us as civilians, also. (I am a vet, but not a combat vet, by way of clarification.) As for them having more experience with moving/shooting, well that's probably the only experience he would have had is OJT, so to speak. The reason that as many of them have any experience at it is they are almost always piss poor shots at static targets, much less dynamic shooting, is that one, they are usually in the inner city, where there is always a good ER trauma unit, and two, the poor shooting abilities for the most part.

Six rounds may be all he had. I've seen criminals carrying 6 shot revolvers with 4 rounds, different types,of bullets from different manufacturers.

A criminal carries whatever they can get their hands on.

The local police had a auction of confiscated guns open to dealer's a couple of years back. 90% were either junk or looked like had been dragged behind a truck. A couple were accidents waiting to happen. I didn't buy any.
