Kimber Ultra Carry II

I can second the S&W Scandium Commanders Mine has been the finest out of the box 1911 I have ever owed.

Not to argue but actually the .45 does lose alot of performance out of a 3" barrel. When Ammo Lab tested different JHP loads out of the 3" guns only 3 loads expanded with regular consistency. The Winchester Ranger 230 gr. +P, 185 gr. Taurus Copper rounds, and the Cor Bon 165 gr. DPX. All other rounds tested were very erratic in performance from these little guns. Most of the better 9mm and .40 loads still work well from the little guns since they were designed for 4" barrels anyways and are high pressure cartridges. They are only losing an inch of barrel by going to the 3" guns. The .45 is losing 2 inches of barrel from what the design of the round is optimised for.

Well, "a lot" is subjective. It does not lose enough to become ineffective. Thats all I said and I'll stand by that. You are not at a loss carrying a 3" 45ACP. You simply are not at a loss for power.

I have a Kimber UC II -- it took almost a year and a lot of money to get it to work somewhat reliably, and I still would not dream of using it for self-defense, as it is just not reliable enough. It is a safe queen and will remain there, because I would feel bad about selling it to someone who might use it for S.D. and then have it fail. I will simply take it out to the range every once in a while and think what 'might have been.'

Thank you EGG. I will stick with my Charles Daly thank you.

Thank you for saving me over $1,000 in investing in the Kimber POS.
Now, I am convinced that Kimber is a POS.

Continuation Of Original Post

here is a pic of my Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II:;)

Glad I chose this weapon~! During summer months, I normally
just slip on an oversize Hawaiian shirt with the little Kimber
riding underneath, in a Kirkpatrick* OWB rig. This weapon has
been totally 100% reliable, even with all major brands of JHP
ammunition. I now rely on Hornady 200 grain T.A.P. JHP's as
my everyday carry load; switching sometimes to Federal's
230 grain Hydra-Shok JHP's.

Soon, I hope to run some of my own test shooting Winchester
185 grain JHP "SilverTips"; as fired from the 3" Kimber, into two
Birmingham telephone books.

disclaimer:

I am not a gunsmith, not a gunfighter and...I did not stay in a Holiday Inn last night.

However, I have owned seven 3 or 3 1/2" 1911s so far. Due to the fact that my funds are not unlimited  I am a "serial owner". So far, three of my shorty 1911s have been Kimbers and all have performed beautifully.

As a side note, when I am looking at GunBroker, guess what I am looking at?
