Liking that Mauser Sam, looking awfully nice. :)

Keeping it simple? Every gun I own is simple, I wasn't in line when "Tacti-Cool" was handed out.

A few hunting rifles:

Hunting%201.png

Ruger 44 Carbine and a Marlin 444 carbine. Used them in West Virginia quite a bit hunting deer. Love those calibers.

Hunting%202.png

Ruger Model 77 in 7mm Remington Magnum and a Remington 7400 in 30-06. All my remaining hunting rifles are about the same. Just plane simple.

As to my AR family? They do not get any simpler.

About as basic as it gets. :)

I don`t know how you get much more simple than this !...................

Here's a pic of my 1944 Springfield M1 Garand (a Service Grade CMP rifle). All I've done is added a sling. I plan on installing a ported gas plug (to use commerical ammo) and taking it deer hunting this fall. The (excellent) iron sights should be entirely adequate for the task.

Can a detachable magazine gun be considered simple?

all my guns are simple. I only have a few and no pics yet. Mossberg 500 12 gauge with a limbsaver recoil pad, marlin model 60 with tech-sight peep sights, ruger single six convertible, and a Winchester 1897. next gun Ill be getting is a henry octagon frontier lever action in 22 mag and it will get skinner peep sights most likely.

Can a detachable magazine gun be considered simple?

Yes, in fact reloading a gun with detachable mags is IMHO much more simple than reloading a tube mag or an internal box mag. It in fact makes using the gun more simple.

IMHO, a KISS rifle is not one that is devoid of well thought out features or additions. If putting something on the gun in fact makes it easier or more intuitive to use that can be more KISS than a gun without such an addition. Note the number of rifles above sporting slings for example. A sling is a simpler way to carry the gun when hiking through the woods.

My AK that I'd consider pretty KISS has a T1 and a simple tail cap surefire flashlight and a sling. Some would argue that adding these is not keeping it simple. However, the T1 is almost universally faster and easier to use. This only becomes more true if the shooter or target is moving and/or if it is low light. Sure one must change the battery once every 5 years but that is a small trade off for all the ease of use. Now if one put on a RDS that required buttoms and switches or one that had a short battery life or was not robust, that would not be simple. If the way it was mounted precluded having a cheek weld or wouldn't hold zero etc that would not make things simple.

One can transition to a pistol without a sling but it is harder and requires then firing the pistol one handed. Doing anything that requires the use of two hands is also made MUCH more simple by being able to sling the rifle.

A light can be simple if it is put in a good place on the rifle and uses a simple and reliable means to activate it. Even a basic tail cap light is in one sense adding a degree of complexity. However, if one has to ID a target in low light it makes things much more simple. Now lights that require running wires and tape switches all over the gun or that are in the way of weapons manipulation are not simple.

I've got a couple, but only one picture since I just got a new phone.

M1 Garand, Springfield Armory, March 1941. And a Japanese Arisaka, Paratrooper Type with matching bayonet.

Seeing that the bayonet is roughly 70 years old and as such predates the term 'tacticool', I don't think that it qualifies as such ;)

I noticed a lot of older rifles previously posted. Here's a modern KISS rifle.

Here is my AR15 with NOTHING hanging off of it. Wierd huh...

Sabre Defence SR15 Light with nothing but a flip up rear added. One of my favorite range rifles.

No pics... but, I've got a Sav '99 in .300 and one in .250, both have irons on them, no lights, no other gizmos to slow things down. Plain and simple.

I'd count this as simple.

Mini-14 "Tactical" w/ wood stock and Choate hand guard.

This one even more so.

Marlin 1897 "Texan" w/ Stock sights (Skinner peep recently added).

Posted in a previous thread, but pretty basic: Remington 700 BDL Custom Delux in .243.
