Just compiling a list of out of the box, well made, most accurate 1911s made. Can anyone offer some suggestions? tia

I had a Series 70 Colt Gold Cup that was very accurate, especially with match ammo, right out of the box. Had a very nice, clean, and light trigger pull too. Can't speak to current production Gold Cups but two recently purchased Colt Governments have been decent as well in terms of intrinsic accuracy.

Colt has me kind of nerved up with the company issues going on.. not sure if you heard of them. Any other recommendations?

For the money, Less Baer PII with the 1.5 accuracy job is a good bet.

Para Ordnance is very accurate and one of the better values in the GI Expert. If money is no object Wilson Combat. S&W, Kimber, and Ruger are also good. Colts are my favorite but mine are all older.

Any of them are accurate, within a certain standard. So, what's your standard? What do you want to do with the gun?

Springfield Armory TRP.
Colt Gold Cup National Match.

These are the two most accurate factory 1911s I've encountered in the last 40 years.

Colt's current issues shouldn't dissuade potential buyers. Lots of 1911 parts out there, lots of good 1911 gunsmiths.

I will buy a Colt Iam not worried about the company going any where .

Colt ,Dan Wesson , Les Bare .Wilson, Brown, Majority of 1911's will shoot better out of box than 98% of owners.

I would cast another vote for Les Baer, but I worked for him for 21 years so I feel I should excuse myself from the discussion. I am not unbiased. Price should be figured into the equation I think. It is not fair to compare an entry level gun to a custom shop product at twice the price.

For the money, hard to beat Dan Wesson Heritage/razorback IMO.

Les Baers with the guaranteed accuracy upgrade are highly regarded as well.

I also wouldn't concern myself should Colt's financial difficulties cause the company to no longer be in the near future. There are more than enough parts and gunsmiths out there who can service any and all make of 1911 for a very long time to come.

My sig hits where it's pointed.

I'm sure it's not the most accurate but I don't use my 1911 as a sniper rifle either.

+1 for STI.

Recently acquired an STI Escort, 3 1/4" barrel 9mm, and right out of the box went thru several boxes of factory FMJ without a single malfunction. Have since graduated to reloads with same results after finding what load it needed to cycle properly (5.0gr 231 115gr HP & FMJ). Way more accurate than I'm capable of.
