Larry King interviews Jeanne Assam

Note that they couldn't release any information about commendations since she had left the force so long ago.

I, for one, am glad that she was in Colorado that day, providentially so, even if it meant a career termination in the past.

That said, some "news" outlets need to be ashamed with themselves.

And hey according to the story, such personnel records are destroyed after 7 years. Perhaps an attorney out there could see about filing a civil suit against the PD and give them a lesson about integrity.
Good point. Maybe Jeanne Assam needs a legal defense fund. I'll pledge the first $20.:)

What do you expect from the libs when you mention God and CCW in the same context.

She swore. Then lied when the bus drivers ears got insulted.
Wow, now there's the crime of the century.

If you had to deal with the everyday losers that cops deal with, you'd swear to.

String her up! Get a posse and head her off at the pass. Oh the poor children.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I don't care if she used to kill household pets. It's irrelevant. Her termination for lying is irrelevant. Her credibility is not in question here. Is anyone trying to imply she's lying about shooting the maniac? The phrase "***" is all that keeps coming to mind right now.

Any character flaws should be spun as a positive in order to show she's human and not superhuman, in other words, to show that a regular private citizen with training can do what she did.

I wonder how this will play.

Just pulled it off CNN.

Coroner: Colorado gunman killed himself
Story Highlights

NEW: Church gunman shot himself in the head, police tell AP
Shooter who killed four on Sunday also killed himself, coroner says
Gunman Matthew Murray died after shootout with volunteer security guard
Coroner says Murray was shot multiple times by security guard
(CNN) -- Matthew Murray, the man who police say shot and killed four people at two separate locations in Colorado on Sunday, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the coroner's office said Tuesday.
"The death of Matthew Murray has been ruled a suicide," the El Paso County Coroner's Office said in a statement.
"It should be noted that he was struck multiple times by the security officer, which put him down. He then fired a single round killing himself," the statement said.
Police Sgt. Skip Arms told The Associated Press that Murray shot himself in the head.
Police say before Murray, 24, went down, he shot and killed sisters Stephanie and Rachael Works, ages 18 and 16, and wounded their father, who was in or near their car in the parking lot of New Life Church in Colorado Srings, Colorado.
Murray also wounded two other people with his assault rifle as he re-entered the church.
One of them, Larry Bourbonnais, described the gunman to CNN. "He was all in black. And he was very calm and collected, just, not moving his head from side to side, but he was just kind of checking things out," Bourbonnais said.
Bourbonnais said he tried to distract the shooter before security guard Jeanne Assam made her move. Watch Bourbonnais describe the scene at New Life »
Assam said she found cover in the lobby after Murray opened fire in the church parking lot and walked into the building. She said she waited for him to approach, identified herself as a security guard, and shot him -- "and that's pretty much it."
"I'm telling you right now, she's the hero, not me. It was the bravest thing I have ever seen," Bourbonnais said. "She had no cover. He fired -- I heard him fire three. I heard her fire three. And she just began -- she kept yelling 'Surrender!' the whole time. And she just walked forward, like she's walking to her car in the parking lot, firing the whole time."
Bourbonnais said when he and Assam reached Murray, "he had slumped backwards, slid down on the floor, and expired."
The assault at New Life Church came about 12 hours after Murray shot and killed two people and wounded two others at the Youth With a Mission center in Arvada, Colorado, 80 miles away, police said.
Brady Boyd, senior pastor of New Life Church, told reporters Tuesday he and his church had already forgiven Murray, even though he is still angry about what happened.
"But being angry and being unforgiving are two different things," Boyd said.
"I forgave him immediately. I can't imagine what caused him to do that. I'm sad for his parents, who are having to bury a young son. But forgiving him was an immediate response of our heart," the pastor said.
He also vowed that his congregation would hold its regular services as scheduled next weekend.
Boyd said members will hold a family meeting Wednesday. "We will gather to worship, pray, mourn and begin our healing process," a statement said.
That process would be helped if the reason Murray committed these acts was known, the pastor said.
"If we could find some motive, some written motive or some recorded motive that he gave, it would be helpful for the healing process, sure, because that is the question: Why? Why, why, why is going to be the number one question that we answer," he said.
Some answers may be gleaned from a warning Murray posted online just 90 minutes before he went to New Life Church.
The message attributed to Matthew Murray -- using the screen name "nghtmrchld26" -- mirrored the wording of a warning posted by in 1999 by Eric Harris before he and Dylan Klebold went on a shooting rampage at Columbine High School.
"I'm coming for EVERYONE soon and I WILL be armed to the @.%$ teeth and I WILL shoot to kill," the posting obtained by KUSA read. This was the same wording used by Harris, with the exception of symbols used to replace an expletive.
Murray, who lived in Englewood, Colorado, just 13 miles from the Columbine campus, titled his entry "You Christians brought this on yourselves." It was published on a Web site for people who had left Pentecostal and fundamentalist religious groups.
The message, first reported Monday by CNN affiliate KUSA-TV, was taken off line by the site's administrator after he talked to the FBI.
The posting on the online forum -- maintained by the group Association of Former Pentecostals -- indicated it was published at 11:03 a.m. on Sunday. The New Life Church shooting happened at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday. The shooting at Youth With A Mission happened shortly after midnight, Saturday.
A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday for the two staff members there who were killed, Tiffany Johnson, 26, and Philip Crouse, 24, according to the group's co-founder, Peter Warren.
Richard Werner, 34, told CNN Monday that he trained with Murray at the center in 2002. He said Murray exhibited strange behavior -- including saying he heard voices -- and was told that he would not be allowed to join the group on a mission trip to Bosnia.
The Youth With A Mission center said that "Murray was briefly a student at the YWAM Arvada training center in 2002. He was enrolled in a Discipleship Training School but did not complete the program."
Warren said Murray was not allowed to join the trip because of unspecified health concerns.
A branch office of Youth With A Mission was located at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, sources said.
A YWAM statement said the Works sisters had participated in one of their programs. The girls were "involved with a summer outreach organized by New Life Church and a ministry of YWAM which rents office space in the New Life campus," the center said.

The suicide label is good for the sake of Ms. Assam. The suicide label indicates that the maniac primarily caused his own death. She'd be hard to sue for harming the maniac because legally she didn't kill him. He committed suicide. If you think nobody has thought about suing her or the church, think again; this is America.

So many things that are disturbing... first that the news media felt the need to go out and dig up dirt on the person who acted courageously here. For what reason I can't imagine...can anyone think of another instance where the media went out of their way to smear someone who acted to stop a tragedy?

Second, I'm disturbed to hear that two men with guns stood there and watched the tragedy while doing nothing. It certainly goes to emphasize that mindset and training are more important than the weapon; but I just can't imagine how they could do nothing in that situation.

.
It seems to have been done very well. She STOPPED the assault (her goal). Legally, once the perp was down and nonthreatening, she could not continue to fire. It looks like she did everything right. The fact that the little bastard had enough left to kill himself (his goal) is irrelevant.

She is a true heroine.

<Edit> Whatever the Lame Stream Media says.

I read the "Shooter Killed Self" article on CNN at work today....made my blood boil. That was a clear attempt to smear the most decent person involved in this terrible event. If anything deserves an Email campaign to the news outlets, this is it.

Man - you guys just don't get it.

The media can't portray this brave and quick acting woman as a hero. It would give lie to everything the main stream media believes.

Bartholomew Roberts' Quote: "Second, I'm disturbed to hear that two men with guns stood there and watched the tragedy while doing nothing. Military Science holds that in action, only about 3 out of 10 riflemen actually fire. Obviously, Ms. Assam is one of the stout 30%. But, perhaps the other two armed volunteers didn't have a clear target or backstop. Or they hesitated to take human life. That's got to be a tremendous, irrevocable decision, one I hope never to have to make.

Kudos to Ms. Assam, she acted when it counted.

We, co-hero and ex-Vietnam combat veteran Larry Bourbonnais also ran to the sound of the gunfire, after promising his four daughters after Columbine that he'd do so if something like that ever happened around him.

He arrived in harm's way before Ms. Assum (pronounced Aw-some) and encountered a male sheep security agent cowering behind a column with a drawn handgun.

Larry Bourbonnais implored the guy to get into the fight but the guy refused, so Larry begged him for his gun so he could "put the guy down." This request was refused multiple times.

So, yes, there was already an armed security guy on the scene but he was afraid and NEVER got into the fight.

Larry Bourbonnais, on the other hand, when nothing else would work, exposed himself . . . called the guy a coward and cussed the guy out to draw fire away from others.

Only as he exposed himself a second time did Ms. Assum arrive and immediately engage the shooter. Her and Mr. Bourbonnais then moved parallel to each other towards the gunman as Ms. Assum continued to fire.

I imagine that Mr. Bourbonnais distracted and freaked the shooter out enough that he became unable to focus on hitting Jeanne Assum as she and Larry advanced on him with no cover to shield either.

IMHO, they are both brave heros!

Larry King uses a lot of lollipops. He must own the place, always the easy interview. Old people have to do something while there sitting dizzy on there medication.

For those who wonder why churches have security guards I have to say I'm surprised more don't. There is an amazing amount of stuff in a church that is worth a sizeable amount of money. Besides the petty cash that most churches have around the communion sets are often solid silver, sometimes even gold, candle holders can be silver, sterling silver or gold. Many times these things have been given as memorials and other times just because someone wanted to give something to the church. In the modern church you will also find computers and maybe even various musical instruments. Any, or all, which can be worth money. It is really surprising more churches aren't robbed but I guess even thieves have a code of honor they go by, at least sometimes. Vandals are another story which doesn't really apply here.

However something any House of Worship has to think about in the present world are the number of people who either have no belief system or who are violently against anyone who believes differently than they do. It is these people that churches/synagogues/mosques/temples have to start thinking about. The more high profile a house of worship is in a community the more likely that sooner or later there is a chance somebody is going to decide they don't like the place, or its people, and try to do something about it.

That's what seems to have happened in this case. It has been reported the shooter had around 1000 rounds of ammunition with him, not sure I buy that much but I suspect he had plenty to take out a lot of people if he hadn't been stopped. Luckily for many people at this church there was one member who had not only volunteered to be an armed security guard but when the balloon went up was willing to go face-to-face with a person who had sworn he'd be a martyr and instead died as a coward.

Even though the Mr Murray is dead I'm very glad it was not one of Ms Assam's bullets that killed him. If she had been the one to fire the fatal shot there would have been someone somewhere who would have looked at this as a martyrdom and would, sooner or later, have tried to carry on Mr Murray's plans.

I haven't gotten all the way to theend of this thread yet but my thoughts so far are why would someone mention yoko ono and the phrase 'having class' in the same thought..

ok on topic, I was having a discussion with a colleague of mine earlier. He's a liberal, (most academians are) and he as saying that he'd heard that the shooter had killed himself and was wondering why someone would be carrying a gun in church also. We talked further about gun control and related issues for a while. He's one of these that asks why people have guns in the first place and even said, 'well, I never go anyplace where I'd need a gun in the first place so why would I need to carry one?"

I guess this was my first real honest exchange with someone who has no idea why it's necessary to provide for one's own protection...

oh well, when the shtf we'll see how opinions change..

BTW, when I was trying to find out early information on Jeanne Assum this morning I Googled her name. At that time, the #1 Google "hit" was by a stupid-azz site that NAMES officers who have ever been accused of violating citizen rights . . . called "Communities Against Police Brutality!!!

If you want to see a true crock of schidt . . . click on this liberal link designed to disgrace any officer in America who has "offended" some thug!

As a matter of fact, looking at this link SHOULD be a manditory requirement for all of us in order to counter the bull-schiedt to come that will attack this brave woman!!!

I don't care what her past was. She did a superb job Sunday and is a genuine hero.

I applaud her and am thankful that she was there and dedicated enough to do what she does week-in and week-out. It really paid off Sunday.

Regards,
Jerry

The press will do anything to keep a story alive.

On the guy committing suicide, has there been any report of what Assam was shooting? I can imagine a tangent coming on caliber wars. I really don't care. She did what was called for, which was to take the guy out, not...necessarily...kill him.

I feel sorry for the armed guy who cowered. But unless or until we face the same situation, none of us really knows what we will do. It is about a lot more, though, than just carrying a gun. Acting heroically is usually the result of deep convictions or instincts. A lot of people with neither strap on a gun.

Thanks for all the posts folks, i love THR Forum, you keep me informed on current events in regards to the RKBA without having to subject myself to the mind numbing turds in the main stream media. God Bless this brave woman and all of you on the forum

I said something similar on another forum about their mindset. I wonder what their background is and what training had they had.

I saw Ms Jeanne press conference, not larry king but I wish she had answered one question that was given her, she was being asked about gun rights but she said she didnt want to talk about that, i wish she wouldve said im all for it and happened today is all the more reason people should carry. Shes ex leo no cop bashing but it made me wonder where she sits on the issue does she side the police who think they are the ones entitled to guns, shes no longer a officer but a member of a security detail so thus in a way leo for that property. Not diminishing anything she did, she had the balls the other guys didnt and saved lives and thats what counts..i just wish she wouldve answered that question in our favor

can anyone think of another instance where the media went out of their way to smear someone who acted to stop a tragedy?

Not necessarily to stop a tragedy (though he did avert a bigger one), but does anyone remember Richard Jewell from the Atlanta Olympics bombing? The media all but convicted and sentenced him, to include Tom Brokaw saying, on air, that the FBI had enough to arrest and try him right then and there. Whats even worse about this situation is that his name wasn't completely cleared until Eric Rudolph was actually sentenced for the crime. For all I know, Jewell may have been a shady jerkhole in his everyday life, but he sure didn't plant that bomb, and it's a flat-out crime that he had to go through all the (literal and metaphorical) trials that he did.

Interestingly, I just found out that Jewell died just this past August from heart issues.

The road to hell is paved with gun-grabbing liberals
I don't see how anyone can navigate it with it leaning so far to the left!
