My impression of the Ruger LCP is that they've make a few modifications and many recent purchasers seem happy. But how do I know if a gun in a store has been sitting there a long time or not? LCP owners, let's hear from you.

1. date of purchase
2. approximate serial number
3. reliability

look for a gun abouve 55,000 and for sure you hve any new bell and whistle.. really I have one with serial #24xx and 1350 rounds through it and it runs fine, ..

I have 370-46XXX and I'm going to break it in this weekend :)

never did get to shoot it this weekend. Boo hoo... Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ok saturday I'm taking my son out to the range and we'll make some noise and smoke.

Got mine today, serial 370-632XX.

Mine's perfectly reliable. I just need to shoot it and verify that.

FWIW, the first two of the last five seem to be serial numbers in the ten's of thousands, which means there are about 63,199 or more made before mine. Most gun mag photos seem to show "370" as a prefix on them all. Pretty good production rate for a pistol that was expected to sell about 45,000 or so by December.

And, as usual, I got a lot of three's, or numbers with primes of three, which is reeaally strange, but very common in my life. Birthday, birth order, number of male children, number of girlfriends, hi dear, moving right along to post now . . .

About six weeks ago. 370-50XXX. 150 rounds to date without a hiccup. Very pleased so far.

sn range 370- well over 700 rounds, runs like a sewing machine after the first 100 or so rounds. the first 100, expect a few jams. after that, just keep feeding it. it likes to eat!

I have one of the first, serial 370-01xxx.

I actually managed to make it jam for the first time ever this morning after what, 6 months of continual use.

I put about 60 rounds through it, which is quite a lot for these pocket guns, to get it good and dirty and then shot it single handed with deliberate limp wristing. Two magazines later I got my single FTF, it took some effort though.

Simply a great pocket pistol IMO, I carry mine everywhere.

These things are selling like hotcakes! I can't imagine any have been gathering dust in gun shops. I know I've still yet to see one for sale down here in Florida for less than $499.

Buy with confidence!

If a gun store has been sitting on an lcp for some time it means indeed they have actualy been sitting on it and not wanting to sell it. these gun don't sit anywhere--long.

You could get one made tomorrow and it could fall apart, so just put that stuff out of your mind, You are buying it from a good gun company with a good reputation, if something goes wrong rest assured it will be made right.
Go in buying a gun with a positive attitude and not be skeptical. Moost all these gun companies know how to make good guns.
You have read reports here fromowners of the first 1000, mine is in the 2000 plus range, some int he 30,000 range and we have no issues.

Buy it and shoot it like you stole it...Nice little pocket rocket IMO..

Damn dude !!!!! I just paid $330 for mine !!!!!! But you're right, they can't keep 'em on the shelves around here. Maybe price has something to do with it.
fit and finish is great too... it's like a fine woman - it just feels good

I second this. My local shop has sold a couple hundred of them and they currently have a waiting list of 67 people.

Don't worry 'bout the new Ruger LCP sitt'in on our shelves too darn long;
as we only get one or two per week, and we have a waiting list that is
growing by "leaps and bounds"~! :uhoh: ;) For example, one of my
customers came in last Friday (the 17th of Oct.) to see where he
was on the list. We were working with a shipment that contained only
one Ruger LCP; our records indicated that was for customer #26. He
was customer #48; so he still has a rather long wait.

McCain-Palin on Nov. 4th~!

I waited six weeks, #6 on that list. Apparently my dealer got a bunch in. Two other stores have yet to call. I have never seen one in a display case yet.

Reminder: ALL LCP's start with 370- its the last five that count.

I have a 139XX (mid May?) and other than hating Remington UMC it seems good. Hammer is always a bit cockeyed, but they had already changed over the cutout area where peening was an early problem I guess before mine was put together.

I kid you not - my local shop has ONE on display for $599. I can give you the name and address of this place. I still shoot there (full year membership), but since I saw that, I haven't purchased a weapon there since. I don't mind the guy making a buck, but that is pure greed.

I just picked up two last Thursday. I've been wanting one for a while, then my wife said she wanted one too.

Vance's Shooter Supply in Columbus Ohio had them. They actually advertised them in their October flyer. I spoke with Doug Vance Tuesday evening 10/14, and he told me that they had a special deal direct with Ruger. They got 200 of them and had only 13 left. There was a limit of one per customer.

I explained that I was a 3 hour drive away and my wife wanted one as well, but was unable to come with me. He agreed to let me purchase 2. When I arrived on Thursday 10/16 there were 3 left. $299.00 each. I also got 2 extra mags at $22.50 each. Not a great deal but I was pleased with it.

We've not shot them yet but plan to soon.

Geez, I forgot about the serial number range. I don't have them with me now but they're both in the 370-6xxx range and I think about 3,000 apart. One was test fired at Ruger on 10/2 the other on 10/8.
