I wold guess that a profile that will feed reliably in a semi-auto is needed; RN, TC, RNFP, etc...

The polygonal rifling of Glock barrels precludes the use of lead in most cases. I use the .40 cal lead bullets from summersenterprisesllc.com in my XD-s with no issues.

jack, you'll find not many will publish load data for lead bullets in 40. Lyman's and Ramshot are the main publishers I have used for data.

Mostly, in lead, that I have seen is either flat nose or SWC. I used MBC 180 gr. IPD #5 that fed well in a M&P 40. And with zero leading, IIRC.

If you want to push the ammo hard and are fearful of leading you can use a coated bullet. Missouri Bullets has good lead and coated lead bullets at a fair price and fast shipping.

Just a note, I used coated bullets without a problem in my G19 when I had one. They worked very well.

I have noticed at least one place offering a true round nose profile bullet for 40 cal. Most fmj and cast bullets in 40 cal have a TC with some type of flat nose or a sound shoulder with a plat point. I would fear that the true round nose bullets would have to be seated deeper in the case to allow for chambering. Look up Lee Precision's 175 TC mold and find a bullet similar to that profile. I will seconded that the coated bullets ae a lot nicer than lubed lead cast. I have been powder coating mine for a couple years now with great results, even in Glocks. Often there is not much price difference in those and plated.

I have loaded the Missouri Bullet cast through my .40 Glocks with little leading and great accuracy using everything from the 140 gn thru the 170s. I used the faster powders, Bullseye/Clays/RedDot. All worked well.

I used a bunch of berrys 180gr TC bullets in my 10mm. It was kinda picky about bullets but loved these. I now use the leftover bullets in sabots in my 45 cal muzzleloader. I really like the bullet. So far it has been accurate and feed well in the autos it has been used in. No reason it wouldn't do the same in the 40sw.

No, it doesn't matter. But get yourself a 45 cal bronze brush or wrap some chore boy around your 40 cal bronze brush to work out the leading from your barrel. After a while, it gets thick in there.
