Lee APP - Pros & Cons

I already have the ABLP and I really like it alot but I don't prime cases on it.
It is my .357 mag press, I have been doing all my de-priming of .357 mag on my Rockchucker, and 9mm on my LNL-AP.
I would like to keep that dirt from the 9mms off of the LNL-AP.

When I done de-priming I pull the shell plate and clean the press, especially the primer slide.

I have to figure out where I'm going to put this little press.
I may have to build another riser like I built for the ABLP.

I'll find out when it comes.
By the way I took the roller handle off of the ABLP press and put the ball handle assy off the old pro1000 press on it.

It is a direct fit. That helped do away with some of the side torqueing the roller handle was causing. My OAL consistency is better with the ball handle than it was with the roller handle. I had the roller handle turned inwards too as this picture shows.
All I'll say is shelves go a long way for creating room on ones bench.

InlineFabrication's quick change Ultramount system is what I use. That way I can change between my bench primer and my APP in about 20 seconds. I just store the one not in use on one of my shelves just above the bench. I prefer the flush mount version. https://inlinefabrication.com/collections/quick-change-press-mounting-system

I bought and tried the Lee quick change system first and found too much flex for my liking.

I like displaying all my press on my bench and glory over my greatness!

I ment their greatness

I can relate to glory and greatness, but more important is it's compatible with my laziness! And while I prefer that and do that for 2 singles, two progressives, and other important things on my 8' long bench, the Lee APP, and my RCBS bench primer are both small and light and I can swap them without hardly noticing......IOW's the least negative effect.....;)
I love shelves as much as TTv2! As as you can see.......there's another use for shelves....bullet feeder slider! BTW, THIS APP mount has zero flex, which I love! The APP is after all pretty light weight and there is a little built-in flex so flex in the mount too, is not something you want.

Below: A month later I found another use for shelves: Mirrors above bullet/case feeders. I have 3 feeders on the rail now.

I use these 50# and 75# to anchor my presses. I can move my press and stuff out in second with a impact driver

I use the same set up for my presses, bench primer and powder measure. I have 2 flush mounts on my bench. works well.

The APP was MADE for the quick change bushings! You can mount them on the top of the press or under the slide depending on the use.....watch all of Lee's videos on the APP site and you will see what I mean. I bought two 3 packs so far.

TylerR has made free 3D print files for the APP to make changing calibers bullets or cases faster and easier. I just finished an insert for his feed tube support for the .270 Winchester case and it works great. Make this vid full size so you can see how it works. Obviously calibers the same height or shorter will work equally well if you have or make an insert for it. We've made several.....rifle and pistol. .223, .308, .270, .40, 9mm, .45 on my bench so far....

In the video above there is just a shell holder/quick change bushing under the slider, and just a hole topside, but that hole you see the .270 cases pass though is made for a quick change bushing with a die screwed in. For big cases a sizer is a bit much, but I like to use a Lee deprimer to make quick work of preparing cases for a wet tumble with s.s. pins.
below, you can add tools to a quick change bushing to swage pockets.....and this is just brass. Sizing autofed lead boolits comes to mind.

The real advantage to an APP is the case/bullet feeding......that's the time saver over other things. There are other good swagers, depriming methods, and even bulge removers for .40 cal., but NONE have a built-in case/bullet feeder, and that's what makes it such a time saver and so useful! I never imagined a feeder for a single station anything. Certainly not under $100

I’m buying another Lee App before something else happens! Just put it on the shelf for a cloudy storm season. Don’t forget, 4-6 months ago, we could not find a press to save out butts

That press started at $109.00, then started coming down, then sat at $79.95 for a long time, disappeared for a while through the pandemic, then came back at $69.95. Good price for it. Mine will be used for de-priming, I was also eyeing their new priming press as well. I haven't heard much about it though.
I'm still using my Auto prime ll from the 1990s for priming brass other than 9mm. it get's primed on the LNL-AP.
I could deprime my 9mms on the Hornady AP, but then I wouldn't get to buy a new toy!:)

As I said in another post, I quick mount the APP and alternate it with an RCBS bench primer.......I can see the new Lee APP priming press could be used instead. Why, go to that trouble? Again.....where else can you auto-feed cases to a priming machine? ....again it's the feeder that makes the APP concept magical. I've also said it before....wouldn't it be great for a heavier duty press, say an RCBS Summit to upgrade to a case/bullet feeding platform!!! I wrote an email to an RCBS engineer and told him so.......he was entralled with the idea.....so we will see what the future brings. ;)

I’m going to setup the second APP as a portable press. Decap outside! that primer dust can’t be good for you

:uhoh:My APP arrived today.
I decided to mount it next to my LNL-AP so it can share the bin with it, since a bin doesn't come with it. The bin came with my ABLP. :uhoh:
As you can see I have the bin turn 90 degrees and I did that when I bought the LNL-AP 12 years ago. So sharing the bin with the APP was a shoe-in.

I'll just slide the bin back and forth. Works for me.
Anyways, I tried to follow the directions and put the red riser on top of the case shuttle that came closest to the height of the case and it wouldn't feed good at all. It was launching cases across the room and jamming up. I took that piece back off the case shuttle and put on the flat one that is shown in the next picture and now it feeds perfect.
case shuttle clearance.jpg
No hassles at all, even when the tube is almost empty. That's a lot of gap but it feeds so well I'm not messing with it. This case feeder is off my 30 year old Pro 1000.
This is dedicated for 9mm so I won't be changing the adjustments on it.
The only Problem I have now is an upside down case now and then, more now than then so I will be drilling out a dime and putting it in the center hole of the collator to slow down the drop of the cases into the tube.
I just deprimmed about 1200 9mm cases and the upside down cases was the only problem I have to deal with now, so I am very happy.

never tried Dillon dies, are they pricey?
Yes, they're Dillon, so costly. They're very proud of their stuff. But the decapping die has a delayed spring loaded feature which is kind of nice.
Most of my stuff is previously decapped so when I hear it "pop" I pull that brass out to see why it wasn't previously decapped and tumbled with a blank primer pocket.
I did swap out the crimp die for a Redding though, I just really like their quality control and attention to detail.
