Anyone using the Lee Classic Cast Press for 44 Mag? I have a Lee Classic Loader and want to upgrade. It takes a lot of force to resize in the Lee Classic Loader and I am wondering how well the Classic Cast Press deals with the force required for resizing.

Sizing pistol cases in the Classic Cast press is child's play. I don't even have the handle set all the way out and .44 Magnum cases are easily dealt with.

I load on the lee classic cast turret. As long as it's mounted on a sturdy bench, the press handles 44 mag/45 long colt brass with ease (assuming your using carbide dies). I find that really clean/shiney brass helps with the smoothness of the resizing process.

I have the Challenger press and load .45 Colt without a problem. Is your current press well lubed?

It looks like the handle/linkage on the classic cast press can be adjusted so that a full stroke is not necessary with shorter cases, such as in pistol cartridges (except for priming, where the ram must return to the bottom of its stroke). The idea is the top of stroke of the handle against the bench would be adjusted so as to take the ram down only far enough to work the length of brass you have.

You can also shorten the effective length of the handle to shorten the handle stroke even more, at the expense of leverage.

Does anyone adjust their handle to shorten the stroke on pistol brass? Or am I missing something?

Andy

I have a Lee Classic Cast Press that I use for .50 BMG and case forming. If it resizes .50 BMG im sure .44mag will be no problem.I also use the Lee to form specialty cases and it works well, lots of leverage.
