Legal Question about marine transport of handgun

Thanks for the replies. IMO, it's definitely not worth taking the chance. Now I'm just left with what to do with the gun before I head out on the water. I could just break the gun down take the mag with me and hide the parts in zip lock in the locked truck. It would only take me 5 minutes. Some might think I'm nuts for going to the extreme but getting a permit in Ct. isn't easy and I want to keep it. Not to mention avoiding a felony charge.

That statement right there is false so it puts other info stated at risk IMO.

You 're absolutely correct. I've had a boat slipped in Long Island Sound for 40 years and the CG has never boarded my boat. The boarding @10days ago I mentioned was on a friend's vessel. I navigate 100 miles a week at least this time of year in NY and Ct waters. I have friends that have been boarded by CG many times. DEP has boarded me many times to check my catch. I also have had a 100 ton masters license for over 15 yrs. So at least in my area, LIS, we don't get boarded with that frequency.

I'd say that over 29 years of operating a wide variety of boats on coastal waters, five days a week, it works out ( for me ) to being boarded ( by assorted agencies) once in 4 years, but a lot depends on the type of vessel, the area of operations, and what your doing.

Within the last two years, I've seen and heard of an increase in boardings and enforcement here in the Tidewater Region. A City Marine Patrol friend indicated to me that after September 11, 2001, they got a bunch of new high end equipment through federal programs, and that the cost of maintenance is starting to pile up, and the cities are expecting a little more action ( and revenue, no doubt ) from the Marine Bureaus.

Just scuttlebutt, but I have been hearing about it.

Is it false or is it just not YOUR experience? Apparently it WAS the experience of the guy who wrote it
