LEO's.......Do you know I have a CCW by my plates?

In Michigan they may.

The number is linked to the registered owner. So they will know if the owner has a CPL by the plate number.

Your DL number is linked, so they will know if they run your DL. Since you must inform an officer you have a CPL when they ask for your DL, it is a good idea to do so.

If it is an out of state plate, I don't know if such info is linked.

JPM - not a LEO, just discussed this with one.

I think in TX they are because a cop buddy of mine told me they are. Sometimes I don't know if I am getting a straight answer from this character though. In FL, I do not think they are and since both cars are registered to my wife, I don't care.

In Virginia, they know from the DL.

I'm not sure about the registration or tag, however.

They'll probably be scratching the back of their heads when they see all the boxes of Blazers that you have been collecting from WildSports :D

My drivers license and CCW card are together in a slot in my wallet. In the
unlikely event I'm pulled over they both will be handed to the leo, regardless of where I am, or whether packin' or not.

Nope, not in Cali. I asked this specifically the last time I did my re-qual. Interestingly enough, the deputy sheriff that was running the class also said that when in a traffic stop situation, there was no legal requirment to announce to the officer that you were carrying.

Hopefully I won't have need to test that one.

Here in TN, your Handgun Carry Permit is linked to your DL. In fact, they are the same number, just different pieces of plastic. When the cop runs your license, it should come up automatically.

In Louisiana, they do... the vehicle registration is linked to your drivers licence number, which in turn is linked to your CCW permit. So, if the LEO does a check on your plate, it comes back with the notification that it's owned by a person with a CCW permit.

I wonder when i drive the old ladys car if its linked to our addy that i have a cpl im sure it is by my plate on my car which is in my name .. but her car is in her name etc etc so would they know ?

Some sheriffs in Colorado add CCW holders' names to the state list of known criminals and wanted individuals. Some don't. Some sheriffs add some names, but not others. Mighty peculiar state of affairs!

Well Kansas still light years behind everyone else. And since I'm a LEO, I have no problem with CCW, in fact I encourage it. After all, those are the ones I do not worry about, it's the criminals, who don't care. I carried my 1911 while I did some time as a PI, and that was the only way to have a "CCW" in Kansas.

IMHO, if one is pulled over for something, and doesn't tell the cop that they're carrying, if they have to get out of the car for something (i.e., inspect a damaged taillight, etc...), and they flash/print on the way out of the car, they're gonna get a piece screwed into their ear... Way I see it, it's (1) polite to let 'em know, and (2) a good way to let fence-sitting cops see how nice and polite we are...

i'm in WA and while i'm not sure if the LEO's can pull it up by your plate, i'm almost certain they can by your driver's license being as your CWP number IS your driver's license number. they are one and the same. i've never had a cop say anything about it though. i'll ask my ex-LEO friend next time i see him.

Not a Leo, However I was informed by 2 seprate dispatchers that in at least my county in NY that all permit holders are flagged when there plate is run. I was also informed that my status as a permit holder is also flagged by my address and my Drivers licencse.

I just looked at my WA CCW permit and while my driver's license appears under my address, the "permit number" is in the upper left cormer. There's a letter "E" in red followd by 6 numbers. I believe that is the official license number entered into a database. The license form itself is from the state Department of Licensing and they get a copy as does the city or county that issued the permit.
