I was in a gun shop today looking at the pistols and the guy there said that there were some PD's starting to use the XD pistols. Anyone else heard this? If so, who is using them?

i have heard of it but for the life of me cant remember who it was....for some reason somewhere in Ohio is in my head but I could very easily be wrong. Im interested to find out more though, great gun.

Seems logical....A Glock with a grip safety....:neener:

Calm down ....that was a joke.....

The XD seesm to be well made and I have heard very few negative comments from actual owners .

It seems to me sales should go through the roof now that it is finally available in .45Aacp!!!!

There are only a handful of agencies using the XD.

Do you know who is using them? It would be interesting to know.

By the way, this store is in Montgomery, AL and they have the XD 9's and 40's packaged with the holster, mag holster, two mags, loader, and a light for 479.99. Is this a good deal?

Mabey that is because if the XDs were discounted as much as the glocks then they would barely be more expensive than the uniform socks.

From what I can tell from having held and fired both, the XD is every bit the gun that the Glock is and can be found for cheeper.

XD 45 ACP on the way!!!!!

I await one as we type...

In the Guns&Ammo article, they state that some police forces are using them, but not which ones. I have one on order right now, should be here soon! WOOHOO!

That's about what they're going for in the local store here. The XD-45 is more.

Really there is more to police use of a pistol than just the gun’s price.

Support = Most LEO agencies have very little patience for poor customer service, slow turn around or lack of armorer training. So far, I haven’t seen much from Springfield regarding armorer training and my personal experience with their customer service is that they don’t fix the problem the first time. This has happened twice to me personally, I sent it in, the problem wasn’t fixed. When a LEO pistol goes in for service, S&W, Glock and Sig will generally jump through hoops to get the gun turned around quickly and correctly, Springfield seems indifferent, but they do like to use SWAT teams and Police officers for marketing purposes.

BTW…Glock, S&W and Sig have well established and well known armorer schools.

Durability = LEO guns get abused and neglected. Springfield’s XD finish is not on par with the Glock Tennifer or Sig black stainless yet.

Aftermarket support = Duty holsters, magazines, etc. are all important considerations when choosing a duty weapon for an entire department. You don’t want to get hemmed in to one type of manufacturer for your holsters or wind up with a pistol nobody makes a level 3 duty holster for as authorized by your agency. BTW….with regards to level 3 holsters, you can’t mix and match holsters to guns, like say, an XD will fit in a Sig 229 holster, it just doesn’t work.

Other than those problems, sure the XD seems “duty ready”.

I think another reason that there isn't alot of pd's using the xd is the fact that it is single action. With lawsuits nowadays I don't think alot of the bigger agencies are willing to take the chance with single action pistols. Mark

We are in Bessemer, AL and have the Springfield XD package* guns in

My MidTN area dept has an XD45 Service and an XD45 Tactical enroute for T&E.
We currently issue G22 or G23 (officer choice).

We T&Eed the XD45GAP. Most loved the way it shot and many were more accurate with it vs their Glock (I thought that was pretty significant since Glocks were familiar/XDs weren't).
We didn't go any further with it, though, for two reasons. We were lukewarm to begin with on the 45GAP round and the pistol's finish sucked. On day one of testing, it was drizzling outside, but I don't think the XD45GAP was directly rained on (possibly, but I don't remember it happening). We took it out of the box on day two and the slide had surface rust all over it. That wasn't going to cut it...especially for patrol.

Now that it's chambered in 45acp and finished with Melonite, our problems are solved and everybody has the warm and fuzzies...

Alduro makes some good points, too. SA better get on the ball with more available armorer courses and better accessory/aftermarket support...especially with depts who have been dealing (and are spoiled) with Glock in those areas.

'round here, sig and glock are the guns. most departments use glocks, some switched back to glock after they went sig because of price. the officers i have spoken w/ said they liked the sigs better but because of price, are using glocks.

have not even heard of anybody here looking at xd's.

I was in my gunstore yesterday and asked the owner if he had the XD45 package. He said he had one left out of the 10 that had arrived just 3 days prior. He said that the Deputie's from local Sheriff's Department had bought 9 in just two days. I took #10 off his hands. Now I am a tried & true 1911 guy, but I had really wanted to just look at and hold the gun up close. When I held it and then pulled the trigger, I decided I need to give this gun a chance. Walked out with it at $479.00 +TTL. I came home, stripped, cleaned, relubed and reassembled it and loaded it with 230gr. Hydrashoks and will hopefully get a chance to head out to send a few down range this afternoon. I am really excited to see how she is going to shoot and what kind of accuracy I can expect. Oh, and as I was leaving the gunstore, Deputy #10 drove up........I wonder what he is looking for?????:p

Well here is the range report and I am impressed. Shot to point of aim out to 25 yards. 100 rounds without even a hiccup. Double tapps are easy to control and it is accurate. Below are two targets of 14 rounds each. The ammo is my favorite Federal 230gr. HydraShoks and this gun really seems to like them. I think she is a keeper. What do you think???

I havent heard of them being widely issued by any departments, I bet they have a following as off-duty and backup weapons though. I am sure they have a presence among agencies that allow their officers to select their own weapons as well.

The local Sherriff's Department does let their officers choose from a list of authorized guns in either .45acp or .40 S&W. Most of the Deputies that bought the new XD-45 were already shooting the XD-40.

Here's mine with it's "porchlite":p

XD for Law inforcement

The XD/HS2000 was made for Police in the begining before importing them
to the U.S.A. B.J.

There are only a handful of agencies using the XD. I don't think SA is offering them the steep discounts Glock did.

Actually...when I was with the sheriffs' dept. the officer’s price for either gun was just a few cents apart. $398 and change with 3 mags.
