Are you guys observing a lessening in the scarcity of ammo during May and June? I've heard conflicting info.

No, the two places within driving distance (in N. California), namely Wal-Mart and Big 5, are out of ammo within hours, not days, of receiving shipments.

I ordered a single box of WWB of .45 from Cabelas over six weeks ago and just received my third email this morning saying that the backorder date has been pushed back again... this time to July 15th.

It seems to be a little better in Colorado. It's gone within hours of hitting the shelves, but the stores are actually getting it. I guess that's something.

We as a community are creating making the ammo shortage a reality. Guys who used to never horde ammo are now buying as much as they cna.

Reloaders who would buy in reasonable bulk are not buying primers in the 5000s as soon as they hit stores.

We as a community have created a lot of this hysteria and too many vendors are taking advantage of the market IMHO.

People need to stop hording and stop buying every single bullet they can find and things will get back to normal faster.

Guys like Walmart are getting stock on a regular basis now. It is getting better. IF we all calm down within 6 months it will be back to normal and you will even see prices move back down

I was at my local gun shop this past week and they had a full shelf of Speer Gold dot's in every caliber and weights you could want.

It's gotten better, but not in the last two months--more like just the last week or two.

I saw the most ammo in the local shops this week than I've seen in a long time. Saw .380, 9mm, 40, 45 on the shelf.

For the first time in several months, my local Wal-Mart has had .223 and 7.62 Short on the shelves for 3 days straight. Earlier this week I was able to buy some .22 the day after it had arrived. Plenty of .40 the last time I checked too.

Frankly though, the crunch hasn't been all that bothersome. I check Wally-world about every other morning, snag a couple hundred rounds here and there. I've had a policy for a couple years now of buying a box or two of ammo every time I'm in a place that sells it. You call it hording, I call it being ready to go hunting or to the range in a moment's notice. I call it keeping all my defensive weapons stoked. I call it being able to take 3 new shooters with me and letting them fire a couple hundred rounds each of 9mm and as much .22 as their little hearts desire.

My local Wally World had several boxes of the WWB 100 round boxes of 9mm on Sunday. I started to buy every box they had but decided that would only be panic buying. I bought two.

The Wally World employee said he was expecting some .357 later in the day.

Later on, I decided to venture back to Wally World, and sure enough, he had some WWB .357 110gr jhp 50 round boxes for $28.87.

I bought two boxes.. All the 9mm was gone by then.

I noticed on Friday evening, they had two boxes of .40 on the shelves at Walmart.

This is the most handgun ammo I have seen at my local Walmart since the election I guess.

I HOPE it is getting better.

I have cut WAY BACK on my shooting just to conserve ammo.

Just bought a pistol at my local dealer here. He said it is still tight. The hardest caliber to obtain is the .380. He is limiting it to one box per customer.

In the burbs of Houston it's yes and no - Academy has found a reliable supplier of Monarch 9mm for $10.99, but Academy, Gander Mtn, Wally World and Carter's are all chronically short of .380 and .45.

The supply of ammo and guns in stores in increasing and the prices are dropping. The floor has dropped out from under ARs so fast that CDNN is sending out emails twice a week announcing AR discounts. The people who bought at the high point just don't want to admit it yet.

RELLASCOUT i think you're dreaming about the pricing.
Perhaps, but this is a dream that's coming true. It's already happening to some extent in my area.

With all due respect, "We" the (ammo-buying) community are stocking up for a reason. As with any hoarding, it all boils down to a fear that that item may not be available, readily available, or affordable in the future; whether it be ammo, or food, or gasoline, or whatever. The difference with ammo is the prolonged shelf life if one takes appropriate measures.

The "hysteria" was started when the most liberal presidential candidate that ever sought the office was elected, one who had an obvious anti-gun background, and who voted for massive taxes on ammo...

As far as the MARKET and VENDORS, that's capitalism. If the ammo was not valued by the consumer at that price, it would not be scarce.

Perhaps you are merely trying to get the rest of us to back off so you can hoard ammo... (just kidding)

I have never owned as much ammo as I do know, but I also offer no apologies if I were part of the reason for the shortage or the price. In that regard altruism has no place.

I have also never been in fear of food shortages, but along with the ammo is quite a bit of stored food for me and my family. I sincerely hope I never have to use either in an emergency situation, but I would rather be prepared for the worst.

TO THE OP: YES I TOO AM SEEING AN IMPROVEMENT IN SUPPLY.

So let's see,a product's price is driven up by hoarding, speculation and fear of dwindling supplies. Are we talking about ammo or gasoline? Anybody that thinks that the price of ammo is going to be cheaper than it was before the rush is living in a fantasy land.
If it were to happen then i think that gasoline should be $1.50 a gallon. The days of six dollar a box 9mm ammo are not coming back.

The fact is that gasoline DID get down to around $1.50 a gallon for awhile in late 2008, early 2009.

Here's a history of the price of gasoline.

If you look at the unadjusted prices near the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 you'll see that they dropped down to the level that they were in the late 1990s--well before the hurricanes pushed the price up.

Furthermore, if you look at the prices as adjusted for inflation, we're paying prices that are lower than what it cost in the early 1980s and late 1970s.

All it takes is reduced demand or increased supply and the price of ammo will come down. Just as it is doing now. And it will continue to fall until supply and demand balance.

How about you and the rest of the doom and gloom folks do a little research before trying to convince everyone how bad things are and how they can never get better.

The fact is they ARE getting better but it almost seems like that is a disappointment to some folks here...

When these recent shortages started I added a few hundred rounds of every center fire caliber I own, (9mm .38special .40 .357 .45acp, 30-30 and a few boxes 12 ga 00 and slugs.) THEN I bought a couple thousand rounds of 22lr.
Ashamedly I quit shooting everything except the 22lr in sidearms and rifles for the last 3-4 months. Not happy about it but that's how I'm coping for now.

2 days ago Wal-Mart still had nothing except 44 Mag or 25 acp.

The shortage is over when I can buy several boxes of Ranger T in 380 ;)

if i can find what i need i will buy all i can get and sorry for beating you to it, but first come first serve. i have never had so much ammo, and reloading components as i do at this moment but i will continue to Horde as you say untill i feel i no longer need to buy before others just to load or go to the range for a few hours. i have been seeing more and more ammo lately, even the sacred .380acp is becoming more available at my local shop.

The main reason things are getting better is because people ran out of money because of the poor economy. Most people know in the their hearts that the cease fire the Democrats have called in the war on the 2nd amendment is only temporary. To think otherwise is to go against 50 years of recent history.
