Let's say... $600 for a new gun, for the heck of it. What would you get?

Why did you ask this in the auto-pistol forum? If my answer has to be an auto, well, I reckon my Seecamp LWS-32 could use a little buddy of the same make and model. Really, though, no other sub-$600 auto-pistol suits my fancy, as I am spoiled for high-end 1911s and custom-shop SIGs. I like my 3.06" SP101 so much, I would like for it to have companion with the same barrel length, eventually, and $600 should about cover that.

As I near retirement from policin', the 3.06" SP101 has become my old man fivegun. I already have snubbier SP101s to act as companion guns, but as a "just 'cuz" way to spend $600, another three-incher would be sweet. (Yes, I really do carry more than one SP101 at a time.) I have somewhat large hands, but medium-to-short skinny fingers and thumbs, so an SP101 is a good fit, almost like a service weapon in my grip.

I already have a SP101 with a 3" barrel ;)

Probably one of the new Ruger Single Tens. I'll bet they'll sell a boatload of these and the SP101 .22.

I second the CMP Garand! Its a gun that all American shooters should own!Its fun to shoot and its timeless history!

Handled an FNX the other day. Liked the feel of it. Debated on buying it, but ended up with another CZ instead.

The curse of the CZ owner. Eery time you pick up something you think, "but it isn't a CZ."

In the $450 - $600 range I would look at a CZ 75b, 97b (.45acp version of 75b), CZ P-07 Duty, CZ P-01 (Nato tested and aproved), CZ P-06 (the P-01 in .40S&W), or a CZ 2075 Rami.

You might be able to find a Universal Arms M1 Carbine for $600 or less. It doesn't have the cool factor of WWII surplus. It is fun and reliable though.

No collection is complete without a lever action 30-30. You should be able to swing a Marlin or Mossberg for well under $600.

ETA:
Should have read the whole thread before posting. Sounds like you made two good choices. Let us know how they are treating you Harmon.

I'm wondering how tame the 9mm version is. I'm thinking about Christmas already.

I would prefer the P just to save the $100. A Rami P with a decocker would be ideal.
